Topic Things You Don't Want To Hear Healing PuGs 8
Edited by Oboron on 6/20/12 7:57 PM (PDT)
So I found a good way to break the ice with groups, and get people to actually talk: Have your cat walk all over the keyboard as you load into the dungeon. The resulting.....sentence will generally turn a few heads and get a few questions going.
Anyway. I did a few HoT's today, and nothing was too bad. Except for a Prot Pally I got in a Well run. He was fine for the whole run, but then he bobbed, dived, and weaved away from me like he was trying out for the high school football team during the Mannoroth fight. Doesn't matter if I was sitting next to him so all the adds funneled his way, he did NOT want to sit still.
I'm used to chasing down HEALERS on that fight, not tanks. :/
Dosrina, I'm not sure if it's common practice for you or not, but you may want to consider switching to using Holy Word:Serenity for dungeons. It's much more effective than Sanctuary for 5mans, and it'll also help you save mana. The only fight I use Sanctuary for is Azshara, personally, and that's only if the group is rather uncoordinated.
Actually I did try LoF-ing him over once lol. He . . . didn't get the hint. Ran and stood just outside the Light and kept aggroing them.
And I do prefer Serenity personally, I use it all the time except in most Raids and in bosses I know damage will be flying around everywhere. Aside from the increase to AoE healing, I like the AoE Healing HW that Sanctuary gets since if the tank is half-competent I can slap it down where they are and it's passive healing for all the Melee DPS as well as the tank. Although it's use is extremely limited when the tank refuses to stay still.
Reminds me of another WoE Run I did not long after that one last night, actually . . .
We zone in, Me Healing with a Warrior Tank, a Warrior DPS, a Hunter, and a DPS DK. I think. I cant be sure of the Warrior DPS but the rest seem about right.
Anyway we fight the first boss, again it takes forever, I try to forget it since it almost never heralds anything about the rest of the instance.
Get to the Portals phase and the Tank is rotating the mobs or something. I have no idea what they were doing but their cone AoE was going everywhere, sometimes it would hit me, sometimes not and random people were getting damage even though the tank had full aggro.
Mostly incident-less, we get to Pero. After he does his Health sapping thing and we scurry into the shadows, the tank intercepts. I start healing when I notice vaguely that I am out of range every other heal. I look at the tank and I couldn't for the life of me think why at the time, but they were running Pero as fast as they could around the outside of the arena, with the DPS chasing after trying to keep up. I run after as well trying to keep their sporatic HP stable. We kill him with one death and everyone runs up the stairs as I rez.
We're both running to catch up when I notice the tanks HP dropping like mad. I immediately thought, "Of course, they continued on without me . . ."
I get there, manage two FH's before the tank just plain eats !@#$ because I panicked and didn't use Guardian like I should have, and the rest of the party soon follows because even FH cant keep them alive through that onslaught.
As we're running back, someone says:
"Are you trying to make us fail?"
Wasn't sure if they meant me or not but the tank speaks up:
"Yea, actually, I kinda am."
"Lol well stop it."
I have no idea if they were telling the truth or something, and they weren't guildies so I dont know if they were joking around in a buddy-buddy manner, so I pipe up:
"So is it just plain mean-spiritedness or is there a reason?"
At the time even I didn't know if that was coming out as a joke or not, but the tank gives some weird answer that I dont even pay attention to and no one says anything more on the subject. We made it back but before we could even buff up again the Tank dives into the mobs and we struggle to down them, though we do without deaths and my Mana felt it since aggro was everywhere. Not a second passes before they are in the second group and I see their Health drop to about half almost immediately as aggro is flying everywhere again.
In a very rare occurrence, I dont even attempt to heal them through this battle, I just drop group.
I feel bad for the rest since they didn't seem mean, and I still dont know if they meant it or not, but they sure acted like they wanted us to fail. And after going through what was essentially the Nine Levels of PuG's last night, I was not in the mood for what was literally a suicidal tank.

Needed to complain for a minute. My lowbie disc priest has now hit Northrend content. Zone in and... woah! Everyone is a death knight except me! I'm actually pretty excited about this, because I just got the large bubble and had been wanting to test it out. For the most part the run was rather yo-yoish; not atrocious but not good. I'm just gonna talk about the first boss fight, as it really stuck out in my mind.
We get to the first boss, the vampire guy. You know how there are those four hard-hitting (it feels like) mobs right before the boss? Tank proceeds to run up to the mobs, aggroing them and the boss. He also had some trouble keeping aggro for a bit, which actually made my job somewhat easier. I did get to practice my big bubble though!
The worst part was during that fight I and the tank died, but not because of the extra mobs or whatever. The boss freezes me, I type out "frozen" in chat and wait for someone to dps down the ice. Someone comes... to dps the other undead the boss summoned. The ice has some form of dot, I die. Tank dies, because if I'm not babysitting his health, he plummets.
He does say sorry for the pull, which sort of made me feel better.
(Edit:originally this was a bit longer, thought about it, and decided the rest wasn't really that bad/worth reading about)

"I don't like Death Strike".... I Sh!t you not....my tank on Venoxis JUST said that...after I had to spam the ever living hell(and his name had "hell" in it ironically) out of GH to keep him up at times!
Edit: ok, so, I just left that group, too long for a tank and I'm tired, but will explain a basic rundown of what happened:
First, the tank runs though the poison clouds with no cauldron buff. Then he pulls the two BIG Venoxis trash mobs, with no cauldron buff, and I have to crank out GHs like there is no tomorrow to keep him up.
Finally on Venoxis himself: tank isn't interrupting the Whispers, he is facing the boss towards the group(venom breath), and is taking a pounding. First toxic link happens, retadin is new to the place, it breaks but not before nearly killing him and the rogue....both soon die to a breath into the group. Then I get a chain of whispers on me, and the Hunter goes down during this somehow(likely combined damage and low received healing....I was busy, sorry man), leaving only me and the tank. What ensued was 5 min of HELL. Still no interrupts on Whispers, fortunately most were on the tank, so I could Smite away to try and kill the guy. Tank is still taking a pounding. During the next beam phase, the third one in all this, the tank gets the only beam present, so I decide to SF and HoH for mana(was at 30%) and get back to full...then the boss comes down, hit the tank, who is at 70% or so...and I have to spam FH to keep him up, but alas, its not enough, tank does down and I quickly follow.
After the wipe we(the group) were explaining his failures to interrupt, move out of green(he stood in it a fair bit too) and use Death Strike....when he replied with the above quote and just made all of us /facepalm....he quickly left after we explained it was a Critical ability of his and Not using it was akin to not doing his job...
I think half the reason i started tanking in the first place was this new trove of tanks who pay no attention to their class, mechanics or... anything!
Other day while on my hunter i had a Warrior tank successfully try to bypass the monstrosity in front of godfey in H SFK. wipe due to that forcing the group to the top platform where godfreys pistol barrage murdered most of the PT.
We tell him to clean up the trash and pull Godfrey down. Trash is cleared, Godfreys not pulled down. wipe #2. I forget which try it was Godfrey finally died, although i know the tank died again at under 10% of Godfrey health, so the Rogue had to pick up.
I still think im terrible, but at least i did my homework!

I have to share this before this before I go cry myself to sleep.
I'm on my baby rogue, trying to get the last bit of justice I need for my next shiny upgrade and I get put into an End Time. DK Tank, Ret Pally, Hunter of some breed, Disc Priest and myself.
Echo of Tyrande. Wipe Count: 2. Healer Deaths: 5
All I saw was the healer running around and then she was dead. Got rezzed by the DK and lived long enough to run right into a second Moonlance and die. We wipe. Same thing on our second attempt. When the boss dies, the healer and hunter are dead and the rest of us are living on fumes. I should have left, but I didn't. I don't know why.
Echo of Sylvanas. Wipe Count: 0. Healer Deaths: 2
First of all, the trash leading up to her was an adventure. No matter how many times I would say to kill the little ones first, the big one would die and the little zombie dudes would feast on bath salts and eat our faces. Tank pulls Sylvanas and the first thing that happens is she fires her Unholy Shot into the melee. I run but the tank and ret stay there and eat the damage. First set of ghouls, it goes down in time but the Ret tanks the floor for the rest of the fight. Healer stands in the Unholy Shot and dies. DK rez to the rescue. Second set of ghouls, Healer dies to the purple stuff. Hunter does as much dps as he can before he dies to something. Luckily, we had her down enough to where the DK and I could finish her off. Again, I should have left, but at this point, I'm fully invested in this group and their success. I want us to beat this place. We NEED to beat this place together.
Murozond: Wipe Count: 3 Healer Deaths: 13 (to be fair, we all died a lot on this boss.)
Trash again. Tank pulls without waiting for a sap or repentance or a trap. Just goes in guns blazing and gets annihilated. I laugh and just die with the rest of the group. (Vanish was on CD.) When we get back in, I mark everything. Tell everyone what they need to do and the trash boss goes down. Painfully, but we still won! On Murozond himself, I tell the tank to keep the boss facing the side and for the healer to stand in melee. Before I could explain Infinite Breath and cooldown usage, he's off. He pulled the dragon to the entrance of the room. Ret dies, mutters something, and drops group right there. We get back in after the wipe and I mark the places I want people to stand. Get a Lock, and we proceed. More suffering and death. Okay, lets do this again. Boss kills us again with 20% health left. Then the Lock says, "Guys we need more dps!" Okay Mr. 9k dps. I'll be sure to pull more while I'm evasion tanking this bad boy. Finally, and I don't know how because the attempt was a disaster, we win. Murozond's tail was facing the hourglass half a room away from where he started, the healer was standing in yellow healing herself like a crazy lady and the rest of us are dying left and right.
DK: Lets do another! We're making progress!!
You have left the group.
This isn't exactly a pug but a guild healer (disc priest) who we occasionally bring into raids who is literally making me crazy.
Spec problems: Was originally using a spec with 2 points in evang, no archangel and naturally no atonement. I spent some time telling him how to spec and it got better. Fast forward a few weeks, he's back to the messed up broken atonement spec. I asked why he changed and I got "tell me what to do and I'll do it" but then he went and copied my pvp spec.
Gear: Still only has 2/4 tier and it's LFR. Doesn't roll on tier tokens. Was using Rathrak, the Poisonous Mind as a weapon and Insignia of the corrupted mind (has no dps spec). Never rolls on healer weapon upgrades unless we tell him to. That's the only reason he rolled on Vagaries. Repeatedly told him Insignia was a dps trinket and to please use one of the other healing ones he had (foul gift or seven signs), and maybe 3 weeks later he swapped it for Bottled Wishes.
Gems: Had nothing but Purified demonseye, told him to get brilliant inferno rubies "when you can", replaced them all recently with purified shadow spinels.
Enchants: Spirit on chest, pvp enchant on shoulder, no belt buckle ever
Kind of derps through all mechanics, shows no knowledge of spell usage whatsoever, somehow only pulls 15k on Ultraxion even letting him get Red buff, and spent last nights DS with his target on the tank 99% of the time even during spine where we had searing plasma on no less than 5-6 people the entire time.
He and another player put this guilds progression to a screeching halt back in Firelands over antics like this.
No one seems inclined to stop bringing him to raids so I'm just not doing any more if he's inr aid. It's ridiculous. We can't do heroic morchok because this guy could never handle the healing and we never 2 heal even with the massive nerfs because he's 100% dead weigh. Ugh.

One time, when running HoT on my dk, we had a Boomkin who kept typhooning mobs after a healer constantly told him not to. (idk why the healer was so bothered by it, probably the tanks friend)
Regardless, the bosses were going pretty smooth. Then as we were running down the final canyon to where we fight benedictus, someone decided to votekick the boomkin. I didn't think a couple of typhoons were that big a deal, so I voted against it. Someone else must've agreed with me, and the boomkin stayed.
Figuring it was the healer, still enraged at the boomkin for some odd reason, I typed "chill out" in party chat.
To which the healer responds "fk off".
A few seconds later, I get votekicked.
To this day I cannot comprehend what happened.
edit: i'm rly good at spelling
oooo, had a couple doozies in the past couple of days on this toon.
zone into BRC. got a druid healer, myself, a pally tank, and a couple others that i just don't remember. anyways, i'm taking a look around, and the pally tank (if we can call him that) was using a 2her. i do an inspect on him. ret spec -_- after the first pull (the two mobs walking at the entrance) we kick the pally "tank." get a new tank, and finish instance without any incident.
second instance, zone into BRC again. dk tank, pally heals, myself, a hunter, and something else. the pally healer and hunter are from the same guild. but, casually glancing at my ui, i see that the dk tank has 21k health. i see this, and i just HAVE to inspect. sure enough, lvl 70 pvp gear, and with some 80 pvp gear thrown in. none of it gemmed, and none of it enchanted. yay abusing the ilvl requirements!!! so, i type in party chat "lol tank in lvl 70 pvp gear!" his response? "don't hate." "you do realize how much harder you're making the healers job right?" "gotta keep it interesting" he retorts. seriously?? i tried vote kicking the fool twice. both times failed. afterwards, i just gave up trying to kick.
we did finish the dungeon though. we really did. tank died a lot, but the pally healer we had was flippin' amazing!! i was impressed, and i'm not easily impressed. that healer gained my respect. he put the big healer pants on and he left them on the entire run.
So I see the satchel and I queue up.
Heroic Deadmines. In progress. The tanking is a bit skecthy but we are okay.
Then when we do Hellix I notice the fight is taking a while. 7 minutes worth of "a while".
The dps was 8k (frost dk)
Tank 7k (warrior)
Hunter at 3k.
After fight I ask "Hunter, is your pet dead?"
Hunter answers: "No, I just got rid of him because I don't like spiders"
Apparently he had not had a pet for the last 50 levels.
We go on, carrying the hunter.
We get to foe reaper. Tank asks "does anyone know the fight?". Foe reaper auto engages and starts hitting me.
I drop group before it kills me.
I just had an MM hunter who refused to call out a pet. Claimed he did more damage without them. He also managed to pull aggro from side groups 3 times and feign death right next to the casters. Awesomesauce.
Ugh, so, I just had a H SFK group with the following.... Rogue in full 377s doing about 6k, Arcane mage in full HoT and LFR gear doing 10-12k with Time Warp up and constantly below 50% mana(not a Single Evocate used ever...), a really good DK doing 15-20k DPS and not needing too much healing, and finally, a Survival hunter doing between 2k and 6k(with TW up) wearing the following:
Two tanking trinkets, half int/spirit gear, one enchant and no gems. His "rotation" consisted of mostly auto shooting, and multi-shot for more than one mob.
All fights took 3-5min+ and Commander Springvale took 10min because no one but me was killing the adds, then I had to stop doing that and heal full time because the damage was just too intense. I hit SF twice, DH and HoH once, Barirer three times and Archangel god knows how many times... surprisingly we didn't wipe....until Godfrey where I was trying to save the hunter and rogue standing in pistol barrage and ghouls ate my face with the bullets debuff(Bad mage!).
I need ice cream now...I carried HARD that dungeon....

So I'm doing normal Vortex Pinnacle with a guildie. We get a paladin who kindly tells us that he's new to tanking and hasn't tanked here before. It goes swimmingly with everyone pointing out tips, and then ...
Me: (after a messy pull) tip: as a druid I have to keep Lifebloom on you, and that can steal threat at the start of the pull. Just mash a few more aoe buttons
LockHero: use wild growth
Me: Not the issue. I have to keep lifebloom up, period.
LockHero: just use regrowth and wild growth
LockHero: wild growth is even better because rejuv only heals one person
Me: Please don't tell me how to heal.
LockHero: jeez it's just a suggestion, you do what works for you ....
Me: I will :)
LockHero drops group after next boss without rolling on loot. The Paladin Pals do another run :3
*Conjures Chilled Confections, handing them over to OldWolfe*
Things like that are why i stopped healing a long time ago. yet you keep coming back. your a crazed trooper- probably one of the best of 'em. thanks for putting in so much on behalf of those of us who do have sense. id say the same for most of the healers in this thread. you all are amazing.
I love healing....that's all there is to it. Putting up with people like that is just par for the course.
Honestly, in the long run, the greatest effect of bads in pugs is it puts off newer healers, leaving behind only the current healer populace, which only furthers the disparity of the class balances and role representations.
I have some family that plays WoW but they are pretty casual an I usually leave them be for that reason. For some insane reason I decided to take them up on their request for a healer. We queue an get Heroic Deadmines.... I facepalm, this is going to be lovely :(
Mind you, I geared out in full heroic Fls gear, 6 wipes later on the second boss an I can't take it anymore. "Sorry guys, I gtg, the baby woke up" >.>
