Graphics freeze, but chat ok??

I hope someone can help me. I've been having this problem for a few months now, and it's just getting worse. My graphics will randomly freeze up for as little as 2-3 seconds up to a minute. This happens in both WoW and D3 and makes it practically impossible to play. When this happens my graphics are totally frozen, but the chat works perfectly fine, and if I can somehow know where to move my character and hit my spells at the correct time, my character will respond accordingly on everyone elses screen and do all the actions..but on my screen it is frozen.
(example: I'll be healing on my pally, the graphics will freeze, but if I keep hitting my heal button I will continue to heal the tank, and if a party member tells me to move out of fire, I can do so..but on my screen everything is still frozen...does that make sense?)

This has made D3 completely unplayable..I've given up. Which is a shame b/c I enjoy the game. And has made WoW very difficult to play. I almost ruined an achievement run last night b/c my screen froze up and I almost got hit by an attack that wouldve ruined it for the entire raid.

I hope someone can help me b/c I have NO idea what is causing this. I've tried getting rid of all my addons in WoW, doesnt help (also no addons in D3 so..), I've tried updating my graphics card drivers, also tried going back to previous ones (I have a Radeon 5700 series). I've tried playing at lesser graphics, though my machine handled ultra graphics perfectly fine up until this certainly started, I'm not really sure what to do from here :(

Would also like to add that it doesn't seem to be a latency issue or fps issue, as my latency will be green and my fps normal (30-60fps depending on how much spell detail/aoe going off at the time)

I'm having the exact same problem. I've deleted my Interface/Cache/WTF folder and it didn't help. Neither did repairing my installation. No problems with latency either world or home.

It seems to happen most often when I load into a zone. Like I can sometimes play for awhile, but then I'll zone into a dungeon, and my wow client gets "stuck" (except for chat).

The only way to fix it is to close wow and reopen it, and hope it works. So frustrating...

Hello Gissa,

Can you post some computer information from the Direct X Diagnostic Tool (dxdiag)? We'll also want to know whether your wired or wireless, and what kind of router and modem you're using.

  • Hit the Windows key, and type:
  • dxdiag
  • Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and Save a DxDiag text file.
Copy and paste everything, except for the last section:
------------------
DirectShow Filters
------------------

After you paste everything into a post, highlight everything, and hit the "pre" button (It says "Code Blocks" when you hover your mouse over it).

Ok, there seems to be many variations of the MS-7522:

http://www.msi.com/service/search/?kw=MS-7522&type=product

I would make sure the chipset, network and sound drivers are up to date first.

Once you've verified that the network drivers are up to date, I'd check for any offload options on the Realtek adapter, and disable each and every offload option.

Can you also post the make and model of your router and modem? I would also bypass the router, if you're using one, and connect directly to the modem, and test playing that way.

Ok, there seems to be many variations of the MS-7522:

Did you recognize the motherboard model number from MSI's site? There's a bunch of X58 motherboards, but I don't know which one is yours.

Ok, the chipset drivers on that page are from 2010, so you probably already have them installed.

The Realtek PCI-E Ethernet Drivers are from May of 2012, so I'd install those:

Ok, I'd test playing, and if that doesn't help, disable any Offload options on the Realtek card, as I mentioned earlier.

I have this same issue, starting today. It randomly freezes. I can still hear the sound and everything, but the graphics stop drawing.

I'd like to report that this is also happening to me, but only when I get into combat and it gets terribly bad when I go into a dungeon. :/
