Topic Ouya, and why I am excited
For the record of all the fourm trolls who want to take note. I am not planning on trolling anyone or anything, I just want to get a general Opinion and share mine of the new Ouya Console.
For anyone that does not know what an Ouya is, this link will explain it http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/ouya/ouya-a-new-kind-of-video-game-console
The main idea is that the console will be a stomping ground for both gamers and developers.
Why is this awesome?
1.) This will be a new entry point into the gaming industry.
A open console will allow for a new place where game developers can get console experience, right now with the entry point being the mobile market start ups to the game industry can at most say they have PC and mobile experience, however not console experience because of the consoles Barriers to entry, where the most luck an Indie developer would have is through Sony.
2.) A cheaper educational tool.
Due to the consoles openness and its ability to be Hacked it is perfect for an experimental environment of a classroom, expect this console to spawn more classes on console game development at cheaper prices since the SDK will be included with the console.
3.) Gamers Love free games.
People love Free things, and start ups want to get their name out their thus there will be an never ending supply of things to do on this console just as their is on our moible devices with free mobile apps.
4.) It won't destroy the Game Industry.
Something like this is not going to dethrone Microsoft, Sony, or Nintendo. Big Developers want a console they develop on to not have holes in it. The reason this is good is because while this will give entry into an ever growing market, it is not going to destroy that market making it pointless to enter.
5.) Gaming for cheap.
This console would be great for gamers on a budget. Some gamers might as well call this second hand gaming or offbrand, but who cares a dollar in your pocket and a game on your T.V. makes for a happy gamer.
Either way I want to hear everyones opinions, good or bad ( just keep it clean). And I realize my prespective as a programmer is a little jaded because I like the idea of lowering barrier to entry on the game industry, or even another way to be able to develop as a hobbyist.
Just realized I miss the correct Thread by a hair in my excitement if someone could move this into gaming I would be much appreciative, even though it does count as technology, just not science.
I've got to do some more research into it, but.. From what I'm initially reading, it's not a console so much as an android tablet without a screen. Or at least not a next gen console. While it could certainly be great for games (and if we could get some decent memory in there) the system will really take off. The initial strength of it right off the bat though is bringing emulators into main stream.
I cant believe they have already 4m dollars being invested into it (hopefully) and in such a short amount of time too. This is one device im really interested in getting as Sony and Microsoft are loosing me with all the stuff they have been doing (especially MS)
I think they most they will make out of the kickstarter is 5mill and im sure they will put that money into good use as updating the hardware somewhat (improving)
