WPVP in Mop
|

I have heard optimistic talk that world pvp is expected to pick up in mop. Do you guys think that's true? Why or why not? I myself hope faction rivalry does indeed pick up a bit.

I heard they are nerfing guards, so wpvp in mop is going to be amazing! |

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/6176110/The_Future_of_PvP_in_Mists_of_Pandaria-6_5_2012 Wow. Thanks.. It looks like they are def pushing to increase world pvp. That nerfing the guards stuff will def help for raiding cities. Looks cool. Not sure I like the sound of the artifact bg though. |

Guards in cities sadly aren't the problem they are weak. I don't see any mention of the guards being weaker in the daily hub zones. That is what matters and actually ruins world pvp. You have to make a choice to go attack a major city, everyone is stuck doing dailies and its when fun actually occurs.
The mention of the item that dismounts people is interesting but what will this actually do aside from keep people from landing for a second to taunt people. The range will be something gimp i'm sure and people will just stay in the air and it will end up being a good idea made useless by limitations. They like to quote them saying they are trying to get people back out into the world but what have they even remotely done to make this happen? The only thing at all ive seen is the phasing linking realms What needs to be done is actual rewards from doing it. Once people are done with the dailies it will turn into just like cata is. There was mention of some world pvp event that would increase your conquest cap for the week but i haven't heard anything more about it, but even then once your geared who cares about cap. If actual world pvp is to happen flying mounts need removed or there needs to be a reliable way to force people into fighting you if they are in a contested zone. Contested zones mean you can be attacked it shouldn't mean if you want to you can be a scrub and sit on your flying mount and ignore that. |

You could make it so that someone cant fly in a contested or enemy zone, that would increase world pvp for sure.

world pvp that i really enjoyed:
WOTLK -Storm Peaks dailies for shoulder enchants. This zone was populated for months because of how important shoulder enchants are. Could always find some action if you were looking for it Vanilla -Green Dragons. World bosses that you almost needed to kill to get NR gear in order to beat Huhuran in AQ40. They could spawn in 4 different zones, at any time. Resulted in some epic guild v guild wpvp. -Cenarion Hold in Silithus. While waiting for AQ raids. Guards had lots of blind spots, had some great fun here. The one thing that is common to those 3 is that players need a reason to be there. It's best if that reason isn't just for pvp. You can't just release a zone, call it a wpvp zone and expect people to show up and fight there. |

The green dragons in vanilla sounds awesome. Wish I had been around for that.

I have mentioned this on the forums so have others. Soon as its brought up you have a flood of PvE people flipping out that they are on PvP realms to play with their friends and they shouldn't be forced into pvp. Sounds like a ridiculous reason but they sadly ruin any constructive post about it. My favorite places were: Isle of Quel - No flying mounts allowed, guards did ruin alot of the action but the island was big enough it was still amazing fun. Elemental Plateau - Everyone wanted/needed motes and this is where you got them there was constantly battles there and was a blast. Wotlk STV - This is where i had the most fun ever at. Everyone was always coming there to do ZG runs for mounts and STV arena was always booming as well. PvP battles actually lasted because you didnt have the choice to just click your flying mount and bail on the whole thing. Dungeon Summong Stones - self explanatory this was before flying mounts/mass summon ruined it. The bottom line is for wpvp to be like it was a few things need to occur, most of which will never get done because of PvE cry babies. 1. Flying mounts removed 2. Mass Summon removed (actually been done on beta) 3. LFG removed, people shouldn't be able to sit in town and teleport everywhere. 4. Guards removed, there is no reason to have guards on a pvp realm. The players themselves are supposed to be what controls the other faction not mindless NPCs that 2 shot you, respawn instantly, stunlock you, knock you across the zone and lock you in combat. 5. A reason to actually be out in the world, whatever this would end up being i don't know perhaps different stat pvp/pve off set pieces who knows but something needs to be there and be updated constantly to keep people interested. 6. Players should be flagged 24/7 no matter where they are if they are. The fact that you have to wait for the opposing side to round up enough to mob you before they even flag to get involved is just sad and makes people not even want to bother attacking a city. Its literally you kill guards for 20min while a few people cry in trade chat, form a raid then all of them flag and mob you. Some of its a bit extreme but we are on a pvp realm so i dont see why it couldnt be done.
Theres multiple world bosses coming in MoP that are basically the same thing except of course flying mounts will ruin it :( |

leveling the first few weeks in the tiny MoP leveling zones is going to be chaos.
|
|
|
Why? You mean small zones shared by both factions will result in alot of ganking one another? |
|
|
That is ridiculous. |

I like that suggestion alot actually. |
So, giving the starter zones a chance is a bad idea? Last I heard, you need new customers to continue to grow the brand. Alienating PvP servers from new players is a great business model. |
|
|
No new players shouldnt be able to get ganked but perhaps you could make it so that once you hit a certain level you're flagged 24/7.

Starting zones should be safe for people to learn but that obviously shouldn't extend to lvl 85s who want to be cowards. Some of my fondest memories was leveling my first char in darkshore/ashenvale/stone talon/stv/duskwood/southshore/arathi highlands, i can still remember to this day some of the fights i had vs other lowbie horde. I can also remember when a lvl 60 came to gank me and 3 of my friends lvling in STV and we mobbed and killed him. Stuff like that was incredible and made the game so much fun its a shame no one is willing to be involved in such things anymore and simply wants to throw a fit the moment they are inconvenienced in any way. Obviously the point of what i said wasn't to enable to me camp lvl 5s in thunderbluff. Low level new players should be protected. I made it very obvious the bad side to it is the pathetic players who sit on their flying mounts/unflagged not even being involved in the fight until they have enough to guaranteed mob you, on a pvp realm you should not have the luxury of making this choice. If you are max level you should not have 2 ways of ignoring the fact that you indeed did roll on a pvp realm. So yes if anyone wants real pvp to return i would suggest flying mounts removed, pvp flagged 24/7 once above lvl 20 as well as no dungeon queing nonsense people need to be out in the world not sitting in town queing. As i said before i have suggested such things and all the PvEs who don't even belong on the pvp realm ruin any chance of this happening. Perhaps a new server type Hardcore PvP would be a reasonable solution. |

Yeah ganking guys in a starting zone is lame. I would never sink that low......I feel there should be a grace period. That being said though If i happened to stumble across some retrospect or velocity members questing through Ungoro crater I'd pluck them and as odd as it sounds they would probably get a kick out of it, provided i wasn't a jerk and camped them. I remember by that point questing was getting kind of dull and i used to get a little bummed when I'd see the top guys go at it lol you felt a little left out. I couldn't wait to get up there in level and get in the mix. Ganking them in ungoro would probably make them feel included in the war and prompt them to level faster. It happened to me the same way and it was kind of cool.

I see what you are saying, but I believe this issue has been brought up since this game came out. 8 years later and nothing has changed, doubt it will in the future.
It's too bad too, would make things much more fun. :) |
