Display Mode/Resolution Changes

With the introduction of patch 5.0.4, the resolutions do not represent display modes any more. The native display mode is used. If your desktop uses your monitor native resolution then the game doesn't change it. You can choose at which resolution the game will be rendered. World of Warcraft tries to figure out the native resolution and generates 10 resolutions based on that.

For example: If your resolution uses 1920 x 1080, 16:9 ratio; it will offer resolutions based on the same ratio aspect:
    • 1066x600 (wide)
    • 1180x664 (wide)
    • 1284x772 (wide)
    • 1380x776 (wide)
    • 1468x826 (wide)
    • 1552x874 (wide)
    • 1632x918 (wide)
    • 1710x962 (wide)
    • 1782x1002 (wide)
    • 1920x1080 (wide)

Multisampling Updates

Multisampling on the Mac client has changed with patch 5.0.4:

The max multisampling for World of Warcraft on Mac is now 4x. In addition, available options for multisampling will be based on the amount of VRAM:
    • 4x requires 512 MB of VRAM
    • 2x requires 256 MB of VRAM
    • 1x will be the only option available for Mac users with less than 256 MB of VRAM

Movie Recording Settings

  • You can now set the recorded frame rate to be maintained as a fraction of the displayed frame rate (either 1/2, 1/3, or 1/4). In this fashion you can play at 30FPS while recording at 10FPS (using the 1/3 ratio), which can make it easier to capture longer movies without running into disk space or throughput limits.
  • You can change the movie recording path (and even record to an external hard drive) by altering your config.wtf file, located in /Applications/World of Warcraft/WTF folder.
    SET MovieRecordingPath "/Volumes/MyOtherHD/etc/etc"
  • There is now a key binding allowing you to toggle the "UI included in movie" option, so you can record movies where the UI is visible during some sections but not others.
  • Feedback messages have been added to the general chat panel to offer more immediate confirmation of movie recording related events (for example, when you toggle UI-visibility-in-movie on and off, a message to that effect is shown in the chat panel).
  • If you trigger movie compressions while logged in, and then log out but leave the game running at the title screen, the compressions will continue (you can open up the movie destination folder and watch it consuming the temp files and generating the .mov result as it goes). To really speed this up, type this in chat before logging out:
/console maxfpsbk 2Then log out and leave the game running at the title screen, and put it in the background (some other app frontmost). This will max the available CPU for the game's compression engine to do work.
