Error #134

Over the last few days we have seen a sudden influx of Error #134 reports. These are file corruption errors that happen when the data on your computer doesn't match up with the data on our servers. The game does try to repair data automatically, but if it can't you'll see Error #134.

We are still looking into why there has been a sudden rise in these errors, but in the meantime there are several troubleshooting steps and workarounds you can try.

  • Disable Peer-to-peer settings from the launcher download preferences section found in the options menu.
  • Reduce view distance to low or fair in the graphics section of the game system settings
  • Redownload damaged files. Detailed instructions on how to do this have been posted by a player here: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6490599131
  • I'll be closing other threads on this issue so that we can centralize the data in one place. If you have important information, please feel free to repost it here. Note that we are not looking for anymore crash logs however.

I thought it might be helpful to note that many times during these crashes the same content keeps getting marked as corrupted and fixed by ROD. For Example:

I am having the same issue as the above poster. I deleted/uninstalled anything WoW/Battlenet and am currently reinstalling from Game Client; hoping for a resolution.

Yea same as the above two. The crashes always indicate Data/world.mpq, and now even when I'm trying to load any of my characters, it freezes at 25% or so, and then gives me error 134 once again indicating Data/world.mpq. It started when I was on my Worgen rogue. When I got to the city below Darnassus, there was just empty space where Darnassus should have been. I took a couple of steps, and crashed with error 134. Until that moment, the game was playing fine, and after that happened, I coudln't log in on any of my characters. I've tried quite a few things, as per suggestions I've seen, but nothing has worked so far.

Thanks for finally getting a sticky up on this, Jurannok. Any official word for the people getting the 'failed to download required update' popup after trying to delete and re-download?

And thank you for your help! I know ya'll are trying to sort through a lot at the moment.
I tried that file repair process, reinstalled, checked the HDD, Reinstalled on a different drive just to be sure, updated drivers, ran a RAM test, and tried a different PC with the same result........So yeah, unless it's just some really bad programing in the client I think safe to say the problem isn't client side.

So when are you going to come, out with a fix to this prob.? The lowing the distance and turning off the peer to peer has work right now and i have been able to log on to my horde toon, but I would like a patch, that puts the game in normal operation, i am not a computer guy/girl, and don't want to try and mess-up files buy deleting them, I don't feel comfortable, doing that.

Not ready to claim success, but after a weekend of frustration, I have been able to log on & play my toon, twice in the last hour & move around the Red Ridge Mountain area, where I was experiencing crashes. Haven't done anything but disable P2P while my download is around 45%, just below "Optimal". After work tonight, if I am able to log on again, I will try and move around different areas & see what happens. Good luck everyone.
Worse today than it has been the last couple of days. Disabled ALL addons, and it crashes to the desktop before I can even log in to a character!

Tried everything that was previously suggested and nothing works. Very frustrating! Blizzard ... fix this or stop charging my credit card $15 a month!

Thanks for at least putting up an acknowledgement thread. Kind of made alot of us mad when we were having massive amounts of problems and nobody was coming out and saying "We're aware of this and trying to fix it". I'm on my 3rd reinstall of my game. Deleted it completely last time and couldn't reinstall via downloading because the installer had "an internal error", and refused to do anything or be useful at all, so I'm working on reinstalling from the game discs now.

May I also mention that I played flawlessly from patch day to yesterday morning, nary a blip of a problem, when I decided to learn archaeology. That toon and only that toon crashes with a 134 any time she tries to fly into, over or across a zone for the first time that contains dig sites. I've gotten around the crashes by stopping at the edge of the zone, walking across the border and then letting her stand there for a few minutes before proceeding. The first time through the zone I do not fly. I'm getting reacquainted with my ground mounts :D Once I've travelled the entire zone, I'm good to fly across, into or over it.

i've had this error a few times, most recently it was a Mage port into Theramore, mage is now stuck in limbo, and also just flying north in Eastern Kingdoms. these only started happening just after 5.0.4 went live so something in that patch, i assume, is the issue.

Edit: it's come to my attention, and this might just be a coincidence but, almost, if not all my errors have happened in Zones that would be Cross Realm Zones for ppl to have a wider selection to draw from for those group quests. now it's just a theory, but from this day forth i'm going to start recording what zone i'm in when the Error happens and then see if i can find a list, if one exists of all zones that Cross Realms.
