Topic Priest spec predictions?
I'm starting an alt for when i get near the gear cap for regular raiding come mists and i dont know which of the 2 healing specs i should focus on. Thanks to any one with an idea of what's going to be good end game come mists.
Holy will be more versatile and consistent, Disc will be bursty since good disc needs to intelligently use spirit shell to mitigate huge amounts every minute. Disc will rule 10 mans. SS>POH before damage will be the cause of many raging forum posts by other healers.
reasons to be holy
-you like passive healing
-you're new to healing on a priest
-you like HoTs
-you dislike dps'ing as a healer (holy can, but its more awkward than disc)
reasons to be discipline
-there's a big HP-loss gimmick you can negate with absorbs
-you enjoy tossing in dps as a healer (atonement makes the risk in this much lower than holy)
-you prefer fewer keybinds (or can't handle as many as holy has)
disclaimer: lists aren't intended to be comprehensive. yes newbie spec = the one that has more keybinds may look contradictory, but it isn't.
you can be an "awesome" holy priest (read: healer) in 90%+ of the situations most people in this game will encounter just by CoH > PoM > fill with Renew, or CoH > PoM > fill with PoH, replace filler with Heal if low on mana, and Flash Heal for occasional emergency. if emergencies are more than occasional, the problem isn't you.
Well I found out how to discredit you in this post. Didn't even make me read a full 5 lines of text.
Healing in general should be a proactive game, especially when dealing with class mechanics like Rejuv/Renew. While Disc can be argued that it's sometimes more proactive, it's also largely reactive (PW:S is quite possibly the best low health target save in the game).
To answer OP, both will be fine. To be most like a Holy Paladin you won't be picking priest though, you'll be picking a Shaman. If you had to pick a spec though, I would compare a mastery stacking Holy Paladin to a Disc Priest.
At the same time though, Holy Paladins are in a good spot (arguably ahead of priests). I wouldn't set it down quite yet.
