I'm considering transferring here to play for the duration of MoP, and I'm also looking for a raid spot. Why Shandris? I used to play here a couple years back in a horde raiding guild, and for the most part there is a pretty solid community here.
I'm kind of curious what guilds are looking for before I make the move. I play pretty much any dps, especially good with melee classes, and I'm also open to healing on a holy paladin. I've been away from the game quite a while so logs are out of the question.
If you need to ask me any other questions I'll gladly make a character over here to answer them. Thanks.

Allanafaye if you happen to read this post, Velsir demands his samiches. That and my son cleared my friends list while I was away from the game or I would have told you myself :P

Answering a few questions would be helpful.

Are you going Alliance or Horde?
What kind of raiding are you looking to do in MoP?
Do you prefer 10 or 25?

1. I'm going whatever faction I get a spot with, I have max level characters on both sides.

2. I'm looking for progression raiding. 3-4 days a week. I''ve seen plenty of casual guilds progress with 2 days a week, but that leaves too much of the week open to be bored. Casual does not mean bad, never has.

3. I've done both extensively. It really doesn't matter to me 10 or 25 is fine.

4. You didn't ask this one, but I'm also in favour of a guild with some level of maturity. Screaming like a 5 year old kid throwing a tantrum because of progression wipes or attempt mistakes does nothing for my performance. I prefer tight knit guilds that value respect and team work above all else.

Taking those replies into consideration I'd say the only other question I'd wonder is what do you mean by progression?

I ask all this since I am the raid lead for AFK and have begun recruitment for a 10M progression raiding team. Simply the goal in MoP will be to push content and complete the heroic and challenge modes before each nerf patch. And complete all of the expansion's raiding achievements. Who doesn't like meta mounts?

We plan on a 3 day week with 3 hours per night. Keeps it light enough people can hang out on the weekends etc and still finish the content. Current days are set at Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday with raiding hours at 8:00-11:00 EST. AFK is a mature guild and many of our members have families so this gives them the flexibility they like to see the content they desire and do everything else they enjoy.

I agree on the screaming and yelling. I take my raiding times serious, but that's one thing you'll never see on this raid team. Frustration can be vented in a better fashion through discussion of the strategy or a specific role's problem. Also if a raid leader has to scream, yell, or rage at his/her team then the RL has no control to begin with. People that respect each other will respect their leader and give the leader the time needed to explain things.

If you have any interest shoot me an email at AlsorinWoW@gmail.com I'm old Vanilla/BC Shandris so if my lack of Cata/Wrath achievements scares you I apologize. Haven't had the time to raid since Ulduar HM attempts.

Good luck!

What I mean by progression is any guild that is focused on clearing content at a good pace and and has players that are driven to succeed. Many players associate casual guilds with being "bads" which just isn't true. In my eyes casual/hardcore are both progression guilds with different time constraints. I think that explains it.

I'm mostly curious as to what classes and specs guilds are looking for before I decide to re-roll or transfer here. If a guild has a spot that I will enjoy playing, then I will submit apps.

Thanks again.

Ahh, personally we have myself and a rogue on our raiding roster at the moment. So we are open to most anything.

The casual/hardcore thing is so out there in left field. To me hardcore is a mindset and not so much a time thing. Casual is mostly a regular player to me. I walk the line between the stereotypical hardcore and casual definitions.

We don't currently have an application. I have written one up for raiding applicants, but it is much better suited to after the roster is mostly complete/raiding in MoP. However, we wouldn't mind a healer. Only one current 85 healer and I don't know if he will be raiding. So again shoot me an email if there's any interest!

I think most of the top guilds on the server are recruiting at this time. On Ally side I know ETA, Verdict, Legion and I think Chapter13 are all accepting new members as well as many other guilds.

It's always possible to get into Verdict as a casual player, but the chances of raiding in the core group are slim. Our core progression group heading into MoP is pretty set in stone. We have a Challenge system that is outlined on our website that explains that process, but you'd be trying to beat out some of the best players on the server to take their spots. While it's possible to accomplish earning a spot in the core group that way, it's not smart to count on it happening. But, anyone who feels confident that they can outperform any of the raiders is *more* than welcome to contact Shasham in-game to discuss everything further.

I sincerely hope that didn't come off as abrasive, or uppity. Verdict certainly doesn't want to paint itself a picture of viewing our core raiding group as being "untouchable". Definitely not. However, I know from experience that sometimes guilds will lure you into applying by teasing you with a false sense of hope in being a part of the progression group, and then once you get in (and you're expecting to be able to raid in the core group), you find out that it's probably not going to happen, and you are forced to restart your search.

I just wanted to be candid and completely honest about how not only our recruitment process goes, but also how an interested individual can go about trying to get into the core group.

I think you came off fine Justin. Honesty is the best policy.

The point I was trying to make is there are spots out there to be had if people are the right fit.

I admire your candid approach. It does take a lot of effort to bump an well known core raider out of a position. I felt your statement was right on the money. Koshei might well be one of the better players around but that is undetermined at this point. Whatever the case I wish both Verdict and Koshei well.

The only thing it takes to remove a well-known raider from his or her spot is to out perform the raider. However, I personally don't care if you're amazing if you're a total jerk, don't show up for anything, but raids, and show little care for anyone in my guild. That said I think Verdict has a good setup for what it desires. I guess my only issue would be it seems to be setup on a one week of raid logs(I may be completely mistaken and I do apologize to Verdict if I am.). I personally evaluate over multiple weeks of raids(LA's raid trials are set to be 3-5 weeks). Every single raider I have ever played with has had an off week I've watched great dps just have something in other parts of their life wreak havoc on their raiding and then seen them a week or so later set the chart on fire. Same a healer that couldn't keep a tank alive, but after this person's life straightened out was one of the best healers I've been around. It's very situational. Real life impacts the game more than most would like to admit. We'd rather say WoW is an escape and ignore that we are affected just the same. So I guess I see the value in such a system, but enjoy the approach of not telling raiders what the roster is before any raid. They have to log in to find out. :)

And I love that SK is Verdict's loot system of choice. Love the modified version we ran in RC. Made for quick looting most nights so that we could clear quickly.

Ahem...excuse me for that. :)
Koshei, I wish you the best of luck in the guild you join! Shandris is always a good place to return to after a bit of stay else where. Or as in my case..near a two expansions later.

Yeah, its never a bad thing to get a new recruit if one player is performing subpar. A raider isnt the entire raid team and if they dont put the effort in themselves or cant get their game together then its not the guilds responsibility.

Oh and yes.... a single week of bad logs can ruin a person when they could be constantly performing above the 90th percentile. When I look at people and I see one log of a ds clear where this person was supposedly doing bad that night it sucks because they could be telling the truth or lying through their teeth.

I thought suicide kings was really interesting too, loot council is my favorite way to go.
