More update to this

as reffered here

http://us.battle.net/d3/en/forum/topic/6606352204#5

you may get terrible performance in game after doing these firmware updates. If this happens, reset your SMC will resolve it. This can happen from time to time with something as delicate as firmware updates since things can get of whack

Resetting SMC:

I tried to update the EFI on my retina macbook pro but it says that the software is not supported by my system?

I updated to 10.8.2 yesterday via App Store and wow worked fine afterwards. However tonight i get home and i get 7 fps. After restarting all i get now are kernel panics when i launch the game.

My thread is here: http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/6573700102

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So far i have done this to try and fix the issues to no avail:
Reset pram
Repaired disk and disk permissions
clean install of WoW

if the manual isn't working, try software update from apple menu and see if that works instead.

also, resetting SMC is not same as pram.

software update from apple says i have no new updates. I reset pram becuase another blizzard thread suggested doing so. Should i go ahead and reset SMC even though i cant install the EFI update?

it couldn't hurt, especially with the slew of recent updates

it's unusual you did not get to install firmware update. Hopefully SMC helps though.

Did you install via software update or combo updater? if you have not tried combo updater yet. try that, links is in the other thread (10.8.2 updates sticky). these can sometimes fix problems with files that did not install correctly using the software update method.

That's really wierd, maybe it's time to go to a local apple store if you can so they can do hardware tests? maybe something just isn't right that they can fix for you on spot.

would reinstalling the OS fix it?

I'm wondering if it has to do with the "time" of the model (mid 2012)? Mine is a late Aug 2012 and I had the same problem, it wouldn't let me install. and I did both the App Store, and then I saw the thread and did the combo last night and tried the firmware update and said "This software is not support on your system".

okay so your having the same issue as me. I got mine in June 2012. Are you also getting kernel panic crashes?

No, I haven't seen any crashes yet. I did have an issue with my external Lycos & Naga keyboard and mouse going haywire. I rebooted and it cleared the problem and ran the game for another hour last night. Now my fps was as high as 65 and as low as 30 and I set the settings to "High" after the update. prior to the OS update I was on "Good" and saw about 30 - 45 fps. But no crashes or freeze screens since the WoW patch 5.0.5.

Sorry :(, Now my fans still scream when the temp on the gpu & cpu goes up. I have to use my BOSE headphones hear the game, music and voices. My wife gets a little perturb if I play the sound through my external speakers.

Omegal if you get a sec could you look through my kernel panic logs on the thread i started and see if you can find the issue? I saw that you did this on a previous person's thread on kernel panics and you found the culprit 3rd party extension that was causing it.

If you have time i would really appreciate it.

thnx!

I've seen them Ant, that's why i know it's a CPU related kernel panic and there are no 3rd party conflicts visible there. I see no non apple kexts in memory. I really thought your panic was the cpu bug the firmware update resolves. beyond that you just need to have an apple tech look at it i guess
