Min/Max via MoP profs = ?

Unless other professions are balanced around +320 secondary stats, JC will probably be best.
At least for fury. The extra BS sockets amount to 160 primary stats but given crit>str for fury, 320 secondary stats is vastly superior. As far as I know, other profs balance around giving a static amount of primary stats (right now, alch has a flask that gives 80 primary stat, enchanting can chant 2 rings for 40 each, etc), so having the flexibility bs/jc allows seems to be the best. |

Well, that didn't happen in Cata until tier 13. If we don't get epic gems until tier 16, that will be quite awhile from now. Also, I wasn't raiding during WOTLK, but did the same thing happen in that expansion?

Ugh. I never thought of how vastly superior blacksmithing/jewelcrafting/skinning will be if the other professions do not give +crit bonuses.

No. When epic gems were released in Wrath, the JC only gem stats were upped to compensate. |

Blacksmithing: +640 Crit
Skinning: +480 Crit Jewelcrafting: +320 Crit Enchanting: +320 STR Engineering: +320 STR (Equivalent) Alchemy: +320 STR Inscription: +320 STR Leatherworking:+320 STR Tailoring: Roughly +320 STR from attack power proc. Herbalism: +480 Haste Mining: +Stamina I mean, just looking through all the professions.. if you want to min/max everything, you have to go blacksmithing + Skinning. There's not a lot of flexibility with skinning, so if blizzard nerfs raging blow you might have to re-learn another profession. |
how are you getting those numbers for blacksmithing and jewlcrafting?
Blacksmithing: +640 Crit That could backfire if somehow Crit doesn't become as crazy. |
Blacksmithing gives you +2 sockets, which you will use +320 crit gems with, or +640 total crit bonus. You could use 2 +160 str gems in, but why would you? JC gives you 3 gems, 320 STR gems, or 480 Crit gems. Naturally, you would use 3x 480 Crit, which leads to a net bonus of 160 crit per gem, or 480 crit overall.
True, but we might all be idiots when they buff haste to such incredible levels that we all have to level herbalism. We can only make our decisions off current information. |

Unless it was changed some time ago, JC will only be equipping two unique JC only gems, not three. E: I'm strictly going off of this post; http://www.wowhead.com/news=204292/mists-of-pandaria-jewelcrafting-preview So if it's dated, then I'm wrong. |
You're right, I didn't realize they changed it from 3 to 2. So that drops jewel crafting down a notch. |
I'm still not going to go Skinning. It is not flexible at all
Ahhhh, f** it. I really don't want to drop Jewelcrafting after spending so much money on it.

Listen, Skinning is going to give us an extra 160 Crit. Which for TG in full BiS 500 more DPS. That is a tiny percentage of 118k. However, the gain for SMF is even smaller since Strength actually slightly outweighs Crit in full BiS and is doing more damage.
Not to mention, if we ever need to go Arms on a fight then the Crit is going to be bad. |
It's really not worth changing professions for 99% of raiders unless you have herbalism or mining as one of your current professions. It is a very small difference that only crazy people like myself will swap professions for.
As long as crit is worth >0.667 STR, then Blacksmithing/Skinning will be the best combination for any class or spec. Regardless of the skinning debate, Blacksmithing is by far the best profession. |

So, I'm slowly running all the sims...
TG T14 H BiS- Skinning is better SMF T14 H BiS- Skinning is better Crit>.91 Str Arms T14 H BiS- Skinning is not better Crit> .60 Str TG T14 N BiS- Skinning is better SMF T14 N BiS- Skinning is better Crit>.88 Str Arms T14 N BiS- Skinning is not better Crit>.55 Str So, this doesn't look all that great for skinning, imo. The numbers are decreasing for SMF (Our best spec atm) with the less gear we have. So, it isn't unreasonable to think that while progressing in gear below T14 N BiS that Crit might be less than .667 Str. Also, Arms is so close to Fury in T14N gear that any fight that has some AoE will have Arms reigning supreme. And then you'd just be shooting yourself in the foot by choosing Skinning. |
Yes, but you would be shooting yourself MORE in the foot if you choose JC and played fury. SMF Fury STR W/ Blacksmithing/Skinning T14H: .91 * (640+480) = 1019 Blacksmithing/Jewelcrafting: (0.91*640)+320 = 902 117 SEP gained by using Skinning instead of JC. Arms: BS/Skinning: .6* (640+480) = 672 BS/Jewel: (.6*640)+320= 704 32 SEP gained by using JC instead of Skinning. |
