Sheep are known for resisting change? Sheep usually follow the herd which can change often. A stubborn bull may not move from it's place.
Build your own and it'll be better for the price anyway and then you can install whatever OS you want! Do any of you notice a trend for terrible and good windows versions? It's like a pattern. You forgot the one before XP.
Vista & 7 have the most absurd requirements! Win7 64bit 2GB RAM + 1GB for XP mode 20GB hard drive space +15GB for XP mode. Ubuntu 12.04.1 64bit 512MB RAM ~4.5GB to install plus as much space as you need for your stuff and Ubuntu comes with a full set of programs (not just trial versions either). Granted most people will have more than the minimum requirements for 7 these days if they bought a computer within the last couple years but that doesn't mean all those resources should be used for the OS itself. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/system-requirements https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PrecisePangolin/ReleaseNotes/UbuntuDesktop#System_Requirements http://www.ubuntu.com/download/help/install-ubuntu-desktop One of my major grips with Win8 is the UEFI Secure Boot feature that doesn't allow you to install any other OS. You're locked in with Win8 and that's it. Microsoft is demanding that systems with the "Designed for Windows 8" badge include a UEFI firmware feature called "Secure Boot" that will only boot software that has been signed with a particular cryptographic certificate. http://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2012/10/linux-foundation-to-offer-signed-solution-for-uefi-secure-boot-conundrum/ Anyway, I am curious to see the effects that Win8 will bring about upon release. As a side note: I hate the Unity desktop environment that Ubuntu defaults too but on the login screen there are two other options to use Gnome again with and without effects. I prefer to use Fluxbox, Awesome or Xfce but that's a quick, easy install and requires only less than a few MB, Xfce requires about 150MB (if I remember correctly) which is still far less than than 15GB. lol But, then again I'd install an open source shell replacement if I had to use Windows so I could customize it but I don't know if that actually helps use less RAM because I don't think Explorer/whatever-the-new-thing-is can actually be killed. |

In retrospect, Cats would have been a better animal to use for the analogy. Sincerest apologies.

lol Apology accepted and I agree, cats definitely are stubborn at times.

Lol I dont see any issues with Windows 8 at all...I'm using the release candidate right now, and quite frankly I like it. People just cant handle change...

Every other Windows version is a piece of crap. Not exactly. see image below. http://s3-ec.buzzfed.com/static/imagebuzz/terminal01/2011/9/27/12/windows-8-will-probably-suck-4150-1317141475-7.jpg |
This. In addition, there's nothing majorly new, but a new home screen with silly animated tiles placed on it. Its extra baggage, that I don't find at all necessary. |

Hate it already - too many steps to go through to get to system files/search - back and forth back and forth - they should have kept it for tablets with touch pads. I want my desktop in my face when my computer boots up and the start button for accessing everything else.

Still running on Windows XP... so yeah.

I'm using Win8 but I don't use the default mobile UI at all. I find it counter productive to a desktop environment. Not being able to close apps without manually killing the process is truly terrible. I use the traditional desktop environment exclusively. I'm still not sure why I upgraded....Oh well it was only 15 bucks.

Win 8 plus any start menu reinstatement software = awesome. Such a fast smooth OS, it's like Win 7 with a turbo. You can completely avoid Metro entirely if you want.

What are these steps you're going through to search? All you need to do is open the start menu and type, just like in 7. I have zero problems with Windows 8. |

Windows 8 is a fantastic OS.
The people who are bad mouthing it are usually the ones who have no idea. Windows 8 is pretty much identical to windows 7 (good thing, windows 7 rocks). with the exception of the start menu being the metro interface (tablet looking screen). Windows 8 allows you to log in with an email address which allows you to sync all kinds of stuff between PCs, and use the app store like a mobile device. Quite cool. Windows 8 has been shown to boot faster and run faster then windows 7 and its very cheap to buy too! Windows 8 is basically windows 7 but better, there is no reason not to like it, just ignorance. |
