Fate of the Church of Light

Obviously there's going to be a big shakeup within the ranks of the church Archbishop Lazarus turning traitor and serving the shadow.

Now, many of his fellow clergymen are in the dark about his true loyalties, motivations, or even his location.

What will happen when his actions literally come to light?

Will the church select a new leader? Who will it be?

What does this mean for us human, dwarven, (and to some extent, Blood Elven) Paladins and Priests, exactly?

You mean Benedictus.

I think by this point many people know about Benedictus.

Probably don't care to much about who the new person will be.

Blood Elven

Yea, they really don't care about what goes on with the Church of Light.

Lorewise, the people do care. A lot.

As they say, religion is the !@#$% of the masses.

Rumors will go around, sure, but how many people will believe them, unless the King decides to make a public speech on the matter? Or if the new Archbishop mentions it?

Anyway, mroe than likely, it'd be a human. Maybe a dwarf. Not a draenei or nelf

Rohan is a good candidate.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if, eventually, Anduin becomes both the King of Stormwind and the Archbishop of the Church of Light.

Uuuhh.. That's -just- what we need, a religious nut as the High King. Thank you but no.

Anduin is far more stable than King Chin. Also what would be wrong with that scenario?

Tyrande leads the night elves and the religion, it's basically the same thing, except one's a racial leader and the other is the racial leader and might become the High King after Varian.

Tyrande and Velen only hold religious sway over their races. The fact they are also their races leaders doesn't give them the authority to push their views on the other races. Three of the races follow a form of the Light already. The humans, dwarves and Draenei. The Worgen probably do somewhat, but they are very outnumbered by the humans. The gnomes and panderan probably don't care, which leaves the Night elves as the odd race out that definitely worships very differently.

Anduin, as the High King, would be in a position to put forth the Light as the religion of the Alliance. He's stable now, sort of, the boy needs a good solid dose of reality to wake him up out of his foolish idealism. But if he is the Archbishop (head) of the human church, as well as the High King, he is literally in the position of being able to make what he says/wishes, come true. He would be holding the secular over the Alliance and spiritual power over three to six races.

There's the saying, power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. The temptation for him to abuse his power would be immense.

Velen would be a good choice. The guy pretty much defines what it is to be 'Light-ey'. In his short story he managed to instill a small army of disheartened refugees with the will to return to their homes and be productive. Dude could work wonders for Stormwind, which has suffered a loss of 'spirit' for a long time.

Varian is plenty stable and is a better king than Anduin.

Anduin is a good symbol, a figurehead, but he couldn't be an actual king like Varian. Sorry, he's better at getting into whacky teenager hijinks.
