Black Screen After Entering World

I had this. The screen would turn black, the monitor would say that it was going into sleep mode because there wasn't a signal coming from my computer and I wasn't able to wake up the monitor or anything so I had to force shut down my computer.

I tried changing the power options, cleaned it with compressed air, used system restore, checked for disk errors, used drive sweeper to uninstall my graphics drivers and install new ones.

What solved it for me was having a fan cool down my computer. So now I know it's an overheating issue.

I left two Nvidia drivers on because honestly I am not sure if they attached to my Mobo in some way. They are Nvidia Chipset and Physx. (Forgive my ignorance.) I did remove Nvidia display driver.

You were only supposed to remove the Nvidia display, so it sounds like you did it right. Actually, you should run the removal tool again, but only for PhysX. We don't want to remove any chipset drivers.

Lets download FurMark GPU Stress Test. This is a tool that is specifically designed to stress the video card to it's max capacity to see if there may be a problem with the video card itself.

Here's the link where FurMark can be downloaded: http://www.geeks3d.com/20120416/furmark-1-10-0-download-gpu-stress-test-burn-in-opengl-benchmark-nvidia-geforce-gtx680-amd-radeon/

Once downloaded you will want to run FurMark and then click on the "BURN-IN Test" button. Be sure to read the caution pop-up.

Let the test run for about 10 minutes or until you notice any odd video issues. Keep an eye on the temperature to note how high it gets.

***Do not leave the system unattended while running this test.***

Let me know what happens.

I have been following this post with great interest.
I have been experiencing the exact same symptoms since the MoP release Tuesday. My crash happens when pressing the "Play" button on the launcher. I then get the blank screen followed by the monitors "No DVI signal" message. I takes a hard reboot of the computer to get the video back. This only happens with WoW.

At first I thought this was a failure with my videocard (GTX 590) and I was about to send it to EVGA for a warranty repair when I saw this post (and a few others). I have tried all the other "fix" ideas that have appeared on these forums for the last week with no results.

I ran the FurMark test @1920X1080 for a full 15 mins. The max temp for GPU1 was 71C and GPU 2 was 74C. The temps reached max within a few minutes and remained steady (within +/- 1C of max) for the remainder of the test.

Note : When the game crashes, Windows Action Center records the event as "Nvidia graphics driver has stopped working" it gives the numbers of times it failed w/ the last date and time a crash occured.

Turn down the graphics to the lowest possible. Then test out the game and let me know of you still get the black screens.

It depends on your system. A lot of settings are disabled while set to low settings, so there might be one particular setting causing issues.

Please post some information about your computer when you get the chance. You can find this information in the Direct X Diagnostic Tool:

Click on Start
Click on Run
Type in: dxdiag (In Vista or 7, type dxdiag in the search field)
Hit Enter or OK

Click on the Save All Information button at the bottom, and create a dxdiag text file, and copy and paste the entire dxdiag file into your reply.

OK, now keep the settings at low and increase the Max FPS to the highest possible.

There is a better video driver available than the one you currently have installed. Lets install the driver to see if that helps.

Here's a link for the new driver:

Vista 32 bit: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-301.42-whql-driver.html

Vista 64 bit: http://www.nvidia.com/object/notebook-win7-winvista-64bit-301.42-whql-driver.html

You only need to download the driver that corresponds to your version of Windows.

When you are going to install the driver I would like for you to select "Custom Install" > Uncheck everything except for the graphics driver > Check the "Perform a clean install" box > Continue with the install

Hey Dan,
Sorry I stopped posting here, after you guys said it was heat I took a few days to address things on my end. I figured this post had been closed so thanks for staying with it. I made another thread with new dxdiag, config. Here it is, I can post it here if you would like. I have determined it is NOT a heat problem, wow crashed with comp at 44(c) and the vid at 58(c).

Thanks again, do you want the msinfo in this thread??? And the dxdiag and config or can you just use the other thread??
