Topic Guild Bank Approaches
I was just wondering how people organize their guild banks and what their policies are on tab access. My guild is quite tiny and at present the bank is a mess. i co-own a guild with my boyfriend, and as of now we don't have any tabs open to any of our guildmates as we are attempting to get it cleaned out from when we transferred servers. Once we've thrown stuff away and auctioned other things, we'd like to start fresh and stock it with items that will be useful to others.
Since different types of guilds may need to stock different things, I'll give a little info regarding the intention of this guild. The Order of the Golden Dawn is primarily going to be a social guild. We'll have a raid team or two eventually but don't as of now. We are a guild looking to have a lot of fun with this game via guild events and activities.
I was just wondering what your thoughts are on this and how you approach your guild bank. :)
Thanks a lot!
I leveled inscription so I could offer guild members glyphs. They have varying access to 4 tabs filled with 1 of each glyph this character knows.
There is also a "Free Buffet" tab where I put buff items, green armor, food, and useful stuff. Netherweave and (occasionally) Embersilk bags are sprinkled throughout the first 5 tabs.
The last two tabs are an open donations tab and the vault.
We have all 8 tabs unlocked and I'm pretty strict about what goes in them, meaning only current expansion stuff is allowed and anything else will get mailed back to whomever donated them.
Tab 1 is Consumables. Food, flasks, elixirs, potions and the materials needed to create those items can go here. Anyone with the Raider rank and above has access to this tab.
Tab 2 is Miscellaneous. This is a deposit-only tab for any rank.
Tab 3 is Enchanting Mats and BoE items. Raiders and above.
Tabs 4 and 5 area Raid Team tabs and are limited to Raiders and above.
Tab 6 is for Professions and their materials and is open to everyone.
Tab 7 hasn't been assigned anything yet.
Tab 8 is for extra Pets people have.
I have the set up where tab 1 is deposits only, and other tabs are withdrawals only. That prevents excess clutter/messiness. It also prevents people from going into a tab where I've made small stacks for withdrawals, and building up those stacks as much as possible before withdrawing a bigger stack than I intend.
We also feature a "For Sale" tab. Everything there is available to guildies for 1/2 of current AH price.
More comes in than goes out. Someone needs to be in charge of keeping everything orderly, and of getting rid of low level stuff one way or another. A trustworthy, diligent, honest and skilled banker is worth double their weight in gold; mine gets rewarded occasionally with a freebie from the For Sale tab.
We run with 2 alt banks to carry the low level materials for people. We have like 3 or 4 people with alts in both to fetch things as needed.
For the main bank we do
Tab 1: Deposit only for current content. The info tab tells who to send older content material to for deposit in the alt banks.
Tab 2: Raid Leaders tab. Flasks, cooked food, potions and probably some cut uncommon gems and lower quality enchants on scrolls.
Tab 3: Food (uncooked). Fish/meat/veggies.... AKA the Farmville tab
Tab 4: Leather
Tab 5: Herbs
Tab 6: Cloth
Tab 7: Enchanting
Tab 8: Ore/Bars
I keep the raw gems on this toon for now. Once the node spawns are dialed back we'll probably have enough room in tab 8 for Gems as well, or we might combine some of the tabs.
Tab 1: is deposit only for all ranks except our "vacation" rank.
Tab 2: is Raider leaders, officers, gm alts
Remaining tabs are officers and gm alts
That's a really interesting idea, thanks for sharing!
I love this! Definitely will incorporate this, thanks a lot! :)
Good thread, which remind me to sort the guild banks since I haven't arranged it at all after MoP launch.
Usually here's what I do
1. deposit only (viewable by all, managed by officers)
2. glyphes (usable by all)
3. raw materials (usable by all)
4. pots & flasks (usable by raiders only)
5. raiding foods & feasts (usable by raiders only)
6. Boe on current content for sale (viewable by all, managed by RLs only)
8. tcg mounts for sale (managed by GM).. but lately it's been empty lol
Any agent can put something into any tab (any given Watch chapter usually has 3-4). Shift Leads and up have incremental access to resources based on their span of control (a corporal supplying 3-4 constables needs less "pulls" than an Inspector responsible for a region). Gold command has carte blanche in any vault within their balliwick.
All members can repair from funds. Duty-related skill training costs are reimbursable, as are travel expenses for PCs.
Tabs are divvied up between starting weapons (awfully simplified in the last 3 patches), starting armor, pre-crafted bags for members who can't do that in the field and supplies for same, and supplies for the nick including uniform items and stored kit.

I'm playing with the idea of having 1 tab per rank. Dark Reign has 7 ranks in total.
Tab 1 for "Initiate"
Tab 2 for "Member"
Tab 3 for "Veteran"
Tab 4 for "Officer"
Tab 5 for "Commander"
Tab 6 for "Captain"
Tab 7 for "Guild Master"
With this idea.... each rank can use the tab pertaining to them... as well as all the tabs preceding their rank. For example... a "veteran" would be able to use tabs 1, 2, and 3... whereas a Commander can use tabs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
(so far Dark Reign only has 2 tabs purchased so the idea isn't yet implemented)
Im quite lucky because pretty much everyone in my guild is a real life friend of mine (from back at school) we raid together occasionally and pvp every other night on our different alts.
Organising my bank is quite easy because of this.
My gbank is as follows:
Tab 1. Anyone can take or donate - mostly random stuff like low level minerals or gems; junk essentially. I also like to put netherweave bags in this tab whenever i farm outlands for rep or achievements. Bags prove to be a great bonus for social levellers because there cheap and easy to make and everyone needs them. I would defenitely suggest doing this if you have tailoring.
Tab 2. A full tab of glyphs which i keep up to date with my inscription alt. I allow socials to see the tab and if they ask me for a glyph illl give it to them. Otherwise anyone who is a veteran and above has full access to go to town on them.
Tab 3. Food tab - Mostly my own tab and for my friends (officer) who actually does cooking. When we raid I get raiders to just put whatever food they get during their travels in there so i can make their own buff foods and give them out at the raids.
Tab 4. This tab i leave upto the officers and a few of what i like to call 'bankballers,' which is essentiallly raiders who actively help with proffession stuff that i dont want to give officer to. Generally its where herbs get donated and free flasks get put. I leave all this up to the rest of the guild as I already provide essentially everything else.
Tab 5. Enchanting and other things like leatherworking/tailoring enchants. I also like to make belt buckles when i can be bothered mining or get ore donations to keep up the stock.
^ this was my favourite tab during cata because during the entirety of tier 11 i got all raiders and veterans to donate almost all the greens they got into this tab. We managed to have free enchants for pretty much everyone up till 4.3. :)
Tab 6. This is my own tab which in cata was mostly filled with darkmoon cards and any other items i was collecting or producing to sell on the AH. Leathers and ore shuffles etc.
I am planning to do this actually! :) My tailor isn't leveled enough to do it just yet, but it's on the agenda!
This is also how we do it. I honestly do not know how I survived prior to the deposit tab. It's definitely a lot easier on the bank manager to deal with one tab worth of junk rather than eight!
To break it down further for you, we have our deposit tab, a leveling tab for greens, bags, glyphs, rep items, etc; a professions tab for items used to level professions; a current tier professions tab which has stricter limits since those items generally hold more value; two raiding supplies tab - including food, flasks and potions, as well as raw gems, enchants and BoE's for beefing up raiders on the fly, and finally we have the Guild Vault.
The Guild Vault is my favourite tab, because this is where we keep all our prizes. Guild members can't see it, so they can only speculate about amazing pets, items and even mounts that we're keeping stashed away in there as prizes for our next social events.
I have been managing guild banks since 2008, and in my experience it's all down to trial and error. What works for my guild may not necessarily work for yours. All the best in getting that chaos sorted :)
Haha, yeah, that's why I'm just looking for what all is out there. You guys have all given me great ideas to pick and choose from though, so thanks so much!! :)
