The metal drops to near cost eventually. It's just at it's peak right now.


In fact, Truegold dropped below cost in Cataclysm. I'm not sure whether this was because of economically ignorant alchemists thinking the mats were free because they farmed them, or because transmute masters had a lower cost per bar than other alchemists.
