Why no API for the Web Auction house?

It's clearly not something being worked on, after all it's been about 2 years since the feature has been released.

Is there a reason for this?

They want to make sure that only a real person can interact with the auction house to minimize/prevent exploiting.

Yet this can be done WITHOUT an API. That would be an awful way to punish legitimate users.

The website allows you to authenticate as a user. The api does not. Until we get full authentication for the api there will not be an auction house api, or anything else that requires authentication (guild bank data for instance).

Does that mean authentication for the api is actually something that is planned for some point in the future?
