WoW Connection Problems

Hey everyone. I had a question about my connectivity.

Whenever I launch the game, it runs perfectly for about 5 minutes. Then, it starts to lag in strange ways. The game never jumps, but instead has intervals where it runs really slow, and then normal. It's a similar effect to running through mud.

I have contacted both Blizzard and my ISP, which is my college that I attend. My ISP says that it may be my graphics card, but Blizzard said that wasn't the problem. Blizzard said it could possibly be that the right ports aren't open, but I am connecting fine to the game. I then figured it may be that my college is throttling my internet.

I am connecting to the game on a mid-2009 MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM, a 320 GB hard drive, and NVIDIA GeForce 9400M graphics processor with 256MB of DDR3 SDRAM shared with main memory graphics card. I am running through a wired internet connection that is connected to an ethernet port on the wall, and it typically gets about 250-300 megabits down.

I really want to play the game, as I am locked into an annual pass and am paying for it. Any help/insight would be great. I will put the traceroute for my wired connection and wireless connection here:

Can you define the lag? Is it looks like a slide show (low FPS), or do you have high in-game latency? You can check this on the micro bar that shows your Home/World ms as well as your FPS.

Let us know what it says when these lag symptoms hit.

It's not choppy. Usually when you lag the game freezes completely for a time, then jumps forward.

With mine, the game continues running, but it just move very slowly in like 1 second intervals.

Again, similar to the effect of running through mud.

Oh, and when it starts doing this, the FPS does drop, but usually never below 20 or so

Do you notice if you have a repair-on-demand.log file in your /Users/Shared/Battle.net/Agent/Agent.1363/Logs directory?

Just as I thought, it is spamming trying to repair stuff, and it can't complete it, so it keeps trying again. This may be what is causing your issue. All this happened just on a recent run of the game :/

Can you try just moving the Interface folder from /Applications/World of Warcraft to the desktop and running again and see if it helps in anyway?

Yes, give me a few minutes and I will try it.

It would seem, for the time that I was on, that problem has been fixed. Usually after a few minutes, the lagging stats to occur, and it hadn't when I left.

What will I do about having addons for my game?

You can add the addons back in, as this error was looking like it was due to a Blizzard Addon being corrupted. I would add the addons back in 1 at a time and test to be sure.

So basically the only thing that I need in my addons folder is my own addons, and not the blizzard ones?

You'll need the Addons from Blizzard, but I was saying copy over the old specific folder addon to the newly recreated Interface folder.

For example, if your old Interface/Addons folder had:

DBM-Core
DBM-Core-4.11.1
DBM-DefaultSkin
DBM-GUI
DBM-HeartofFear
DBM-MogushanVaults
DBM-Pandaria
DBM-Party-MoP
DBM-PvP
DBM-TerraceofEndlessSpring
DBM-WorldEvents

I would move it from the old folder to the new one.

Ohhh now I see

So when I launched the game, it created a new addons folder.

I understand now!

Cool. Yea the game will recreate just Blizzard Addons only. It won't recreate any custom ones you had.

Thank you so much.

I can post back here if things go wrong again?

Sure. I'd like to take notes for my research on this and see if it helps :)
