It wouldn't surprise me if it was the same batch of folks that used to make dead alts stack up in the air and spell out gold sites...

The crappy part is that the hot fix and subsequent authentication server problems have messed with many folks' one day a week that they can get into the game and work on things....

*sigh*

Thanks for the hotfix! Funny to watch the video and hear them laugh knowing they will get in no trouble for this.

No, YOU are the one who makes no sense. If that person breaks into your home, unplugs all of your electrical devices, and then leaves without stealing something, they are still guilty of BREAKING AND ENTERING. And you will have a fridge full of spoiled food, possibly frozen water pipes, no hot water, nothing that you need electricity for working.

It's illegal to access a computer you don't have permission to and do things like that. Everyone knows this. It may seem like fun and games to you, but it cost Blizz real money to call in developers and security people, find the issue, code a fix, down the servers, inconvenience the users, etc. So in that sense, it was theft from all of us - since we aren't getting to use the product we purchased for a time.

Don't tolerate any kind of hacking. It's not cute. It's illegal everywhere. And it's not a victimless crime.

We need to be able to kill our own faction.

Kill the spammers, idiots, ninjas etc... It would bring some fun PvP back into the cities ><

Most moronic idea I've ever seen.

Don't waste those that want to justify *hacking*. They're cleraly lacking in the moral department.

They were easy to take care of. One well placed train and they logged out.

Taking it very seriously huh? Why dont you BAN THEM then? There shouldn't BE an investigation, its public knowledge! You can see the names in the game and the videos! Maybe if you got off your duffs and watched some, you could see who it is?

Because they aren't players. They are trolls who find a way to cause game damaging exploits, and then they execute them from trial accounts. Honestly, banning them from the game isn't going to fix anything, they are probably people who already WERE banned for exploiting and are mad at Blizzard and trying to get back.

If anything, they should be getting the FBI involved. They can't exploit and crash the game if they are sitting in a cell with Bubba. We aren't talking about breaking Blizzard's terms of use here, we are talking about violating the law. What they are doing is actually a felony.

This exploit, along with crashing the servers, the DoT being cast on friendlies bug, and a couple of others have seen the same people be involved in them, if you're so serious about it maybe it's time to start handing down permanent bans? I see the same people who I know are responsible still running around in org. It's ridiculous.

Well if you see people that are responsible, and they are still running around, then report them.

If you can't provide proof they were exploiting, such as a video or screenshot, and all you have is assumption, then stop crying. I doubt very seriously that blizzard responds people breaking the entire game very apathetically.

Actually there is some harm from things like this. Players completely new to mmorpg's have absolutely no idea how things like this happen. It can be stressful and frustrating to them (as in: "I died, what did I do wrong this time?"), and is doubly frustrating when they find out that it's due to an exploit or hack. They just don't have enough perspective to take it in stride sometimes.

It's called a Starter account, simple as that. Ban a starter account, they make a new one. Thus, a investigation, like, LEGAL to try and actually find the people responsible for the disruption. Banning accounts does little to nothing to stop such things.

Easy fix, stop allowing starter/trial accounts, or make stricter limits on them.

Call me cruel, but I cannot help but lol at the first vid.
I know it is wrong, I know it is horrible ... but come-on, deep inside there is this dark desire ...

Does never justify the action. But still, there is something about seeing it that makes it awfully ironically satisfying.

1. They were using trial accounts behind proxies, so they can't get their mains from that.

2. Even if they do find and ban their mains, nothing says they won't buy another copy of the game when it's on sale and get right back to it.

These guys brag about it on a rather well known hacking site.

Why Blizzard's not just gone and taken action on the whole lot over there I'll never know.

Meh - what was really lost today? A couple hours down time? It's a good thing Blizz uses a subscription model - they hardly lost anything today.

Does it make what the hackers did right? Of course not. But lets not over exaggerate what they did. Doubtful they'll even catch who it was. If the hackers knew jack crap about REAL hacking (not coding but network intrusion) then there is no hope for blizzard to find out who really did what.

Code better software - it's what they have a QA team for.

Never take tylenol or any other products with painkillers in general in them while drinking alcohol. It WILL damage your liver very severly and possibly kill you.

Fixed that for you.

Acetominophen, ibuprofen, naproxen sodium and aspirin are all bad juju while drinking :P

If you honestly think that you can, or that it's possible to, create a flawless product that never has any issues whatsoever through intended or unintended behavior, please, never work for our government, public sector, or anyone else of any sort of importance.

Or move to Europe.

{hugs} Blizz. Sends case of Tylenol and several cases of beer...

To Players: As an admin. on another MMOP game keeping players off is neigh impossible unfortunately. Especially if they are really good at this kind of thing. One does what one can, and there are some things that can indeed be done to block it, at least for a while.

But unfortunately there is a limit as to what can actually be done. Blizz is fantastic at fixing things that have been messed up, and at blocking this for as long as possible. Kudos to Blizz as this is a major headache!

It is a risk all games have to deal with unfortunately. For some people their only joy is ruining the fun for others. They serve the darkness not the light. They are apparently not able to feel joy for a fun game, or the wonderful joy that comes from helping others. Instead they must destroy all that gives joy to others. While this is sad and pitable, they do and will continue to exist.

We can endure and rise above such low and negative behavior. We can applaud Bilzz for their hard work and basically speedy recovery (these things can be Massively time consuming to repair.) In doing this we also shun those who caused the problem. Their goal (probably to cause trouble and destroy beauty/joy) is negated as we continue to support the game and all the wonderful fun that comes with it.

Whether you like Blizz and the way they do things or not doesn't really matter in this instance. They have obviously done a spectacular job fixing this problem. May still be a few issues, but they are being fixed so very quickly! Crashing a game is not how to say you have issues with a company. The only thing it says is that you are not able to enjoy a fun game, and your attention seeking behavior reward is only in your mind.
