Raid Tank DPS - Blizzard gives us justice.

A player who is efficient, min/maxes, and has a great rotation should pull comparable dps. There isn't a rule book that says that a tank shouldn't be able to do that.

Example of UNFAIR: Your tank has been running raids for 9 months. He has gotten geared up, and he is a great player and tank. You have a dps who just hit level 90 that day and he beats the tank in dps all of the fights in that raid.

As a tank we don't - and haven't ever really complained or noticed something like that because our goal is just to tank. It's the whiny baby dps that notice our dps and call foul. This is very sad considering that we do put our time and effort doing dailies and gearing up, and we should be able to pull dps comparable to the gear that we have gotten and the time that we have put it.

There is basic logic. If a tank does the same dps as a dedicated dps while having more survivability then what is the purpose of a dedicated dps?

There isn't anything that says we should either.

It's far too late to fix without introducing another mechanic which scales off of damage taken in order to handle survivability/mitigation stuff, but on the other hand it puts a lot more onus on the tank to contribute maximum DPS.

To do that DPS without needing to get hit in the face (vengeance) to do so.

Tanks already have to concentrate on encounter mechanics and surviveability far more than dps (generally, I know there are exceptions). If you add the additional requirement for them to do the same dps as actual dps, then doesn't that sound a little unfair?

To do that DPS without needing to get hit in the face (vengeance) to do so.

Vengeance doesn't ramp up that fast or work that well that it could enable tanks to do the same dps as dps in most cases. And they don't have to, since tanks get a threat buff. Tank dps does matter a bit at the moment, especially for progression raiding, but to make it so tanks are always expected to do the same dps as dps would require substantial redesigning and would also, like I said, be unfair.

at this gear level, tanks are tying top DPS (there's several #1 tank parses in wol)

Tanks aren't scaling quite as high as DPS with gear, so you'll see the difference soon.

This argument falls flat since you can't start bringing in more tanks and do more damage that way. Dps are better to bring then more tanks therefore the purpose of the dedicated dps is quite clear.

Ultraxion is still one of the few fights that breaks this stipulation

Pretty sure it's a scaling thing.

DPS naturally scale better and will likely overtake tanks on most encounters once more epics are obtained.

If tanks want to keep up they would have to wear DPS gear while tanking, which typically doesn't happen unless it's old or trivial content.

I read the OP as saying he wanted tank dps to scale so that a well geared tank would out dps a poorly geared dps.

Tank DPS depends on vengeance, so you can only have one tank at a time doing that much DPS. If you go in with eight tanks and two healers, there won't be enough incoming damage to keep all the tanks buffed with vengeance, and you'll wipe to the enrage.

Tanks & Healers can do DPS, but it should never be the focus of either. Tanks should worry about threat and surviving and Healers about keeping health bars up.

I can understand tanks getting spoiled by inflated damage numbers while leveling, but a fresh DPS running the same content as a veteran tank should always beat the tank. Otherwise, we'll bring 8 tanks & 2 Healers for 10 mans and 4 tanks and a healer for 5 mans.

Know your role. If focusing on damage meters is what gets you going, run a DPS spec and call it a day.

HOW UNFAIR, BLIZZARD!
