AMD Display Driver Recovery Situation

Sooo... I'm not sure if it's just blizzard products that break my computer... or what the deal is but every time I play wow or diablo my AMD driver loves to freak out on me and black screen me, and then it takes like 15-20 seconds to recover and it generally happens when I'm questing and I come back dead. Joy!
It doesn't happen when I am browsing the internet, so I can only assume it's a graphic card issue.. Everything is up to date on it.. it's not one of the unsupported graphic cards.. but it's been doing it more and more frequently lately and it's super frustrating. What are my first steps to figuring out my problem? Is this an easy answer? (Like it's absolutely a dead busted !@# graphic card) or could it be multiple things with a much easier, less expensive fix? Thanks for your time. |

I had the exact same problem. Since my computer was an HP, I was asked to report it to them and they told me to simply update/reinstall my driver. That fixed it for me. I was able to to find the driver on HP's website. Not sure what machine you're running, but I would assume the driver can be found on AMD's website too.

I was told once to switch to directx but when I do the lockups seems to take even longer.. Oh well.. guess i'll just grin and bear it until I can afford a new card.

Tried to update my drivers but it doesnt seem to make a difference. Oh well.. i'll just put up with it til my sub runs out.

Here's a shot in the dark: reduce the quality of the in-game video settings and see if that has an effect. You might even start by reducing them all to minimal settings, then gradually bumping them up one at a time, play for an interval then bump again.

Try putting into window mode, if that doesn't help turn off window aero. That helps, I just went to a new rig because I was tired of the amd problems.

I tried all minimal settings and it still craps out on me... I play in windowed mode currently. I want a new rig.. but it's not in the books right now sadly.
