Why Can't I Kill Allied Hunter/Lock Pets?
|
These pets having real taunts again is like the best worst change ever.
Definitely nice for those classes...when they're soloing. But At least half of all hunters I encounter in dungeons leave their taunts on. Or they'll use Stampede and not believe me when I say the summoned pets are using their taunts and haven't been turned off. Under normal conditions, I just let the pets keep aggro until they die so I can develop real Vengeance again, as many hunters don't respond when I mention their pet taunting. How do you guys handle those damned things? |

Having a hunter its something I have tried to remember I have to turn that dam taunt off... but when I am soloing without it my pet is useless without it.... Stampede needs to be fixed so that None of the pets taunt unless your taunt is on (if it doesn't already do that, would have to test that) its annoying when I tank as well but taunt shouldn't be an instant pull it should be high threat but not so much that I can pull a boss halfway through a fight

Agreed. We found out way back that pet taunts don't work. So they changed it to high threat. And it wasn't enough. So instead of just increase the threat gain, they turned it back into a taunt. I don't even...

I just ignore the mob the pet is tanking. If it dies, I'll pick up the mob, otherwise I'll just move on to the next pack. If it happens in a raid, well, that's just a bad hunter and they should be removed from the raid. But in a 5-man? I don't care in the slightest.

I care when the pet interferes with me pulling the mob out of fire so my melee dps doesn't take unnecessary damage. Tanking is about more than threat and pets can significantly interfere with a tank's efforts to position mobs. I have the same issue with army of the dead which is why I've glyphed it on my dk so it won't take threat. |

Pets summoned by Stampede only taunt if their taunts were left on when they last used the pet. The Glyph of Stampede will cause the spell to summon copies of the current pet and seems to solve a lot of that issue. And on a side note, if I happen to be running in BM and have a spirit beast out ... I can chain all the healing spells off those pets for well over 300k in heals. Kind of a nice oh sh**t button.

Yes they do, but I only care in raids. In a random 5-man, I expect melee DPS to be smart enough not to follow the mob into the fire if there are other mobs alive. If not, I'll taunt the one remaining one on the pet out of the fire to safety, and stun it. |

It depends on the pet's owner, whether there is a lot of ground aoe, etc. I very rarely have issues with growl or Threatening Presence, but I do ask hunters with Spiders to swap pets, since it is a PITA to move mobs when they are webbed. Generally I still hold threat even if the pet does have growl on, but if not, I don't stress about it.
If there is aoe and one mob is still on the pet, I can usually drag the others over slightly and rotate the rest of the group so that they have their backs or sides to melee, and are close enough to the ones still on the pet for aoe/cleave. I've even been doing some questing with some Horde hunters in less-populated areas, and they generally have excellent pet etiquette once we establish that we're cooperating. :) |
