The second would be better, but not by much over the first one

And of course, can't go wrong with Clevo P151EM. Don't forget you need to supply your own OS or buy one.

Yeah, I'm adding Windows 8 :)

I know what I'm going to get. Thanks for all your help, Kal! I really appreciate it.

Kalganized I think I've asked you this before but what's a reasonable voltage/OC for a MSI Twin Frozr III Radeon 6950?

I currently have mine at the standard voltage and 900 MHz core and 1325 MHz for VRAM, but I was wondering if I could safely up that.

Yeah, you can up the voltage, but not by much. For 24/7 use, I wouldn't push it beyond 1.2v. For comparison purposes, the HD 6970 ran at 1.175v, and my HD 6950 hit 920 MHz with 1.175v, while it could do 900 MHz with 1.110v.

Absolute max is 1.3v, but that'll probably end up frying the card.

Alright. So the performance gains probably wouldn't be worth it?

5 minute run of Furmark at 1920x1080 made the temperature of my card even out at 68 C by the way.

Yeah, graphics card OC generally do not yield much performance improvement (like few FPS). It's just that GCN architecture seems to have been built with OC in mind.

68C is an excellent temperature, but I'd also watch VRM temperature (seen through GPU-Z Sensors tab)

I'm not seeing VRM temp in the sensors tab in GPU-Z

Then your card uses some propriety VRM design that won't let it see it. Oh well, no big deal. VRM temp only goes up if you increase voltage

hey kal

im going to be doing a first time tower and because i dont really know much about computers besides playing on them i decided to go with your (TL:DR build #2) and chose my OS.

small question once i order them would the parts be sent in bulk or separate and would everything be ready to put together or would i need to buy all the wires and watnot to connect the components

thanks for the read

Strife:

GTX 650 Ti is a good jump from 550 Ti, but price-wise, it's not too good of a choice since you can find HD 6870s / GTX 560s for about the same price. Generally, these two cards will outperform the HD 650 Ti by a little bit.

If you can find a 650 Ti for $130 or lower, then take it.

Halalmeat:

HD 7870 can max BF 3 with good FPS. But if you want more, I'd consider top-end GPUs like HD 7970.

Team:

Usually they are sent in a single massive box. Only the computer case (if you bought any) will come in its own box.

All you gotta do is put it together, it comes with all the necessary wires and whatnots.

Only thing that you may have a problem with is if your PC uses VGA cables. Then you need a VGA->DVI converter.

If you play Skyrim with HD textures, I'd upgrade HD 7850 2GB version.

GTX 650 Ti is about ~90% of HD 6870 performance

This will run the games perfectly.

You may be able to find better deals on the SSD if you buy elsewhere.

You don't really need Intel Ultimate-N 6300, but that's up to you.

If I go with the standatd drive and buy the ssd elsewhere, is this just a plug and play type of thing?

So just go with the standard wireless card?

Yeah. Installing a new drive or RAM into the laptop is usually brain-dead easy.

Yeah.
