New WoW players are so rare, though. Usually the level 1s are just people's alts.

Anyone else notice that female tauren are usually played by the nicest people around?

Yes, unless they're playing a female tauren ironically, or have "qt" or "lol" in their name.

I love stuff like this.

When I was new, I remember posting on the New Player Help forums about running dungeons. I was too afraid and I was looking to see if I was ready. At that point, I didnt have a main hand weapon, just an offhand because I hadnt found any good two handers or a main hand yet. A poster in the thread saw that we were on the same realm and faction and 'just so happened' to have a level 30 caster staff on his 85 DK :p. I logged in later that night to find a staff and a letter in my bank. I sent him back a thank you, which he never expected. We didnt see each other again for months and months, but then in a thread like this, we both posted, me talking about the awesome DK and him talking about how he helped this adorably nooby warlock. He sent me another letter, we added each other to friends lists, then realID, then facebook, and now he's my best friend <3

That's awesome, Sandse!

I know, right! He's such a sweetie pie!

It inspired me to help people when I can. I remember seeing a little lowbie Worgen Warlock once when I was flying around. He looked kinda pathetic (like he didnt have a higher level feeding him gold and stuff). I took note of his name and later sent him some mail with a bunch of gold in it and a note saying 'enjoy'. A few days later, I got a letter back from him thanking me profusely. I told him it was my pleasure and to just do it for someone else later :)

Actually, when I first made my character on Moon Guard, I met Syrely in Razor Hill.
She gave me and my friend 2 bags, and continued to do so to other lowbies in the area. We started talking to her and she said she was done giving out bags, and offered to run us through RFC. At this time, all I'd heard about Moon Guard was how infamous it was for ERP, and the like, so I happened to be surprised by this act of kindness. Syrely allowed us into her guild, and she and I have been friends ever since. I've not ever lost sight of how nice she is to other people, and I'm glad it hasn't gone unacknowledged.
Salute to Syrely, and the rest of the Hall of Finer Discipline.

And Sandse's helped me through quite a bit. She's also incredibly adorable.

I was leveling up this DK on Shattered Hand a few years ago (I never finished as you can see) and I was attacked by alliance while questing in Hellfire Peninsula. A fellow hordie saved me, then his friend flew over to me and crafted me a full set of armor, without me even asking. They acted like it was no big deal and did not accept my humble refusal. Really nice thing to do.

I was SO shocked, coming from West Coast servers, I was convinced that East coast people were just genuinely nicer after that (lol).

Unfortunately, Im generally too poor to help people much. And I've been too lame lately to lurk on the noobie forums like I used to as a way of giving back. :(

Another time, in TBC, I was running shadow labyrinth (or one of those instances in that area) on a random toon on Gurubashi server and I remember everybody in the group being awesome and getting along really well.

Somehow the topic of cooking came up and, I think he was a hunter, in the group turned out to be a cook and I expressed interest about wanting to learn to cook. We talked for the next two hours about cooking which was awesome. I had to log off for whatever reason. I came back on the next day to discover my mailbox full with typed out recipes for various dishes. It had obviously taken the hunter awhile to type these out but it was really just a nice random act of kindness.

Cheers to you Mr.Cook, wherever you are!

I had this happen to me a long time ago too. It is not uncommon on my realm. Maybe it's a roleplay realm thing?

Couple years back I was transferring one of my toons and had to much gold to take with me. Wasn't alot but just enough to keep it over the cap fir transfer, so I just stood in the starting areas handing out 100G until I got below what I needed.

the only downside to this was getting called some nasty names because I didn't give so and so something, or why didnt I give more.

overall it was a pleasant time, and the tells were basically nice.

On my end when I was on my warrior, learning to play it for the 1st time, a another random warrior gave me all kinds of tips and tricks that I was able to use as I leveled. Long forgot his name, but I dont see that much anymore, it's all about me me me anymore.

Back when I was trying to level my DM rep, I used to get those lowbie BoEs that I'll do a /who 10 (or whatever level was on the gear) and just mail it to someone who could wear it.

Given lots of rides to strangers looking for a way to get to 1K and remember escorting someone (before flying) thru Un'Goro to Silithus - had to rez him a few times. =P

I don't remember all the stuff I've done to help people, mostly without thanks, but that's just what being a part of a realm means. Even in these days of x-realm, you should help out your home-realmies.

I met Syrely when I first made my tauren warrior! So much awesome, it was totally inspiring. I ended up doing the same thing for about a week going around to the alliance starting zones. Not sure why I ever stopped, but seeing this thread makes me want to do it again.

It's great to hear of someone doing that. I remember when I was just a newbie on another mmo quite some time ago. I found a sword skin that I thought was amazing and was trying to find someone selling. A player ended up giving it to me and basically said the same thing, I can repay him by doing something nice for a beginner once I'm familiar with the game.
It really stuck with me and I was always trying to help newbies.

I too remember Syrely fondly. As Cata started, I was levelling alchemy. As part of levelling, I was offering to make flasks and what not for free just to skill up. I think I was even offering to provide the herbs as long as I got the Volatile Life. Syrely contacted me, and together, we made hundreds of elixirs and flasks, mostly her mats, even seeing her hop alts to get more volatile life and herbs. She didn't have to. She had her own alchemist, one that was even properly specced into flasks/elixirs where I was x-mog. She just did so to help me get my last few points in Alchemy. Which at the start of Cataclysm, wasn't the easiest.

I was more than happy to assist a mage who didn't have his First Aid high enough to heal the baby cloud serpents for one of the Order of the Cloud Serpent profession dailies just last night. It's also nice to see people helping other people with the Golden Lotus dailies in General Chat every day. We need more people like this on EVER server. For those who have assisted others, I applaud you! It's always a comforting reminder of how fun it was to play in "vanilla" WoW.
