Monk or Shaman: Utility
|
|
I'm not talking about who can put out the most heals. I wanna know who brings the most utility to the raid. We already have mages so lust is not a concern.
Thanks in advance. |

Shamans. Hands down.
Monks have little utility compared to the totems (spirit link, healing tide totem), ascension use, viable cc (trash), interrupts(some raid groups assign them to it), offensive dispel (mage won't dispel off of first boss in terrace? no problem), etc, etc. As a monk you have what... life cocoon? A raid wide cd that hits for maybe 33% of everyone's health? In terms of utility, a shaman is the clear winner. Even if you don't include lust. With the recent nerfs, the extra throughput of a monk isn't even as overwhelming as it was. |
Monks have decent utility. They can solo soak 8 sparks on H Will. They can eat TA on H Elegon without getting stunned. Not to mention some other abilities. Shaman still bring more utility but Monks bring their own special utility as well. |
|
Forgot about that talent. But still, shamans blow them out of the water when it comes to utility.
|
No monks do not have much utility. They have zen meditation that is pretty much useless and that is really it. |
|
The priests are good in the same fights that monks are good. Shamans in the other hand are better for stacked up fight.
For the better composition bring a shaman. Still what Freelovee said hold up.

If your raid has no druids, no paladins, noother monks and
either no hunter or no ele shaman/shadow priest then you might want a monk, otherwise you're almost definitely going to be better off with the shaman (utility-wise) |

Monks don't bring utility. They bring solid heals.
Think of monks like resto druids in Ulduar. |
Definitely competitive, but with current mana limitations, i'm not sure it quite makes up for it. Our raid leader's wife wanted to drop her spot for a monk that's new to the guild. That would make our healing team 2 monks and a disc priest. (raid leader's wife is a shaman) ... DEAR GOD NO. 1 monk gives enough of a nightmare when they don't play absolutely perfectly. We may have multiple OOM heart attacks if we had to make up for 2. Thank god i convinced her to stay. I can only imagine how bad raid cd phases would be on us with 2 monks. |
Monks don't bring utility. They bring solid heals. You're one patch and a couple hot fixes behind the times. Between their auras, self-rez and totems, Shaman cannot be beat in the utility department. If the Devs ever find something useful to do with Zen Med in a raid setting, then the gap will close some. |

Monks are all out put
Shamans have situational CD's which can save your raid |
