12,000 or so updated files is not "small."

If that's your idea of small, I don't want to see your definition of "major content patch." ;)

Files being changed != update size.

I don't know the specifics on how the repair tool does it magic, but my impression was that the files were being checked for errors. Let it do its thing, give the install a clean bill of health, and you're good to go.

This is probably it.

Think of it this way. Not only are you downloading a small patch, but the repair tool is running.

And it checks EVERYTHING.

There is confusion between 'download', 'update', and 'checking'.

The download itself was small (megabytes). It updated the launcher, not the game client. It checked 12,000 files to see if they needed repair.

For the few people that might have needed repair, it would then download the appropriate files needed to repair the client.

The write-up I saw (in a different thread) was that:

- The small download is an updated launcher.
- The new launcher re-enables the "repair tool" function of the launcher.

- As it turns out, the new launcher's repair tool decides that it needs to verify / repair every file in your WoW install, which is the reason for the 10,000-file progress bar.

You can start playing about 5% of the way into the process, hooray for that feature.

Eek! Glad the camera isn't turned on... :P

Actually mine didn't repair much, I have a super slow internet and the entire process only took 6 minutes. So for me it wasn't very big. Took 10 1/2 hours to download and install MoP.

6 minutes is No problem. lol
