Healing Threat Generation

Hello Healers!

As a Tank, I am trying to understand threat generation a bit better. Going over the numbers, Healing threat is 1:2. Does this mean for every 1 point of healing done, .5 threat is gained?

yes, that and only actual healing done generates threat, not overhealing.

Isnt healing done by tanks affected by threat modifiers so it's actually a bit higher? Or is he only talking about healer aggro, not tank self healing aggro?

Specifically asking about Healer specific aggro w/ Heals.

Ah then that looks about right. Healer aggro is only really existent atm if a mob hasn't been touched by any sort of damage though. Even by a dps.

Not really - on a fight like LFR Ultraxion you actually could pull aggro from (well, really bad) tanks by just doing a metric crapton of healing.

Admittedly, those scenarios are few and far in between, and there's no boss this tier where it's a problem afaik.

That's a really, reallt, really bad tank. and some really low dps.

You seriously never pulled threat on LFR Ultraxion before? :P

I don't recall ever pulling threat, but I have a Fade button. >.>

I don't ever remember pulling threat on LFR ultrax since only tanks got the debuff so if they messed up taunts, DPS usually pulled aggro. I guess I got lucky that there was at least one person pulling 25-30k dps in my lfrs.

When you added dps into the mix with normal / heroic fading light, and a tank messed up there, I often took a melee hit to the face since most dps had their threat dropped at some point in the fight.

There's one more bit to the formula you're missing. Healing aggro is divided up among all available targets. So if I throw out a 1k heal with five targets up, I don't get 500 on all of them, I get 100.

Unless this has changed, I haven't looked into it in quite some time.

Ultarxion isn't a normal fight though. If I recall correctly (it's been a while) there's an aggro drop associated with Fading Light or Heroic Will or something, and since healers are the only ones who never get Fading Light, we're probably going to be pretty high on the threat table.

Add to this the healing buff which basically doubles out healing output (and hence threat) and all it needs is one tank to stuff up and we get our faces eaten.

It's pretty much the outlier encounter as far as healers getting threat is concerned.

The obvious point here is that the less damage you take, the less threat the healer will generate. I don't know if someone else already said this because I totally just TL:Dr'd this thread but think about it.

EDIT: to resto druids... You pull aggro. Displacer beast through the tank! the mobs will chase you and hopefully run into a thunderclap or something. Makes it easier on the Prot.

With the state of tank threat generation now, a tank would have to do nothing in order to let the healer pull aggro.

If your healers are higher on threat than dps, then your dps is absolute garbage. Even on Ultraxion, by the time the healer buffs go out your dps should already have a huge headstart.

Tsulong does like to eat healers, but I'm not sure if it's completely due to threat. Even at 100khps, the tanks should have more threat banked. I haven't run a threat addon for ages, but I suspect the phase swap is simply an aggro wipe.
