Maddening shout and absorbs on Spirit Kings

[For reference, I raid in ten man, and the question comes up for the heroic version although the answer could easily come from a normal mode. I had started the expansion as a mistweaver monk but have returned to my roots as a priest healer because a fourth clothie in a ten man raid group with absorbs is better than actually using the intellect leather. I don't know the answer from normals and so am asking here.]

If I put up spirit shell/pw:s/aegis before maddening shout from Meng the Demented, does the damage absorbed count as "damage taken" to remove the madness debuff from people? I can't find an answer after some searching, and it would really stink to find via experimenting if it didn't (and the absorb + 40k had to happen).

My absorbs have never interfered with people being broken out of the MC.

Spirit Shelling maddening shout is quite effective. Normal mode, mind. I don't think it's different for heroic.

Absorbs work for it on Heroic as well, highly recommend trying to mitigate as much as possible.

Depending on your raid, I'd recommend saving it for any Maddening Shouts that happen during Cowardice. Raid's already taking damage and will probably be more spread out. SS will help keep stragglers from biting it and ease the potential spike in damage.

DAMN I did not know this. I would not shield during Maddening Shout thinking it would screw up the aoe. I should have just looked it up LOL.

Absorbs/Spirit Shell is the singular answer to every possible raiding problem in tier 14.

It's such great design. Wonderful, really.

It's not a party until a gnome pops out of someone's chest.

It's not a good party if gnomes are involved.

Do they feel warm and fuzzy inside afterward?

I'm can also confirm that absorbs work very well for maddening shout and that gnomes deserve to be punted.
