Healing addon - Grid, Vuhdo, or Healbot?

Vuhdo. Overall a better addon than Healbot, though I haven't tried Grid.

Starting a healer, which addon should I opt for?

Healbot.

I can only show you a pretty VuhDo. :(

I don't use Grid, but they are all pretty much the same in terms of customization.

I'm not sure where people get the idea that vuhdo doesn't look good. Mine looks great IMO.

I've made a couple more changes to make it even better since that pic was taken about 2 months ago. I'll try to update it if I remember when I get home.

As silly as this might sound, could paladin tanks make any use of any of these? Or should I just stick to only tanking addons? Kinda curious since there's times when the healer drops during combat or if by miracle I happen to notice one of the DPSers is low on health.

I have a Grid profile set up for raid healing that I use on all of my characters. It shows among other things: Health, resource bars, selected debuffs, role, and aggro.

The aggro, health, and resource displays are very useful as a tank. Really help for situational awareness. They can even be handy as a dps (cc that trash mob beating up a healer).

Grid alas is not the most user friendly mod in the world when it comes to configuration, and you also have to download all the modules so there's more work setting it up than with other healing raid frames. But once it's set up it's pretty great. I think I originally made my current profile back when I was raiding Tempest Keep.

I enjoy Vuhdo: http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/1466/vuhdot.jpg

My raid UI (and UI in general) is always a work-in-progress, but I like a lot the current iteration. The main thing that needs to be fixed still is vuhdo-dependant: as far as I know, it's impossible to isolate the Spirit Shell shield buff from the Spirit Shell spell itself, as Vuhdo doesn't distinguish the two.

I think all three ( and the default raid frames with clique ) provide the same basic functionality. I use Vuhdo because I think it's the most polished. Vuhdo also lets you see a persons role and break out tanks into their own group while healbot does neither of these things.

Not sure about either of the Grid addons (tried the original Grid but it just wasn't for me), but with Vuhdo you can set your party/raid up by role. That right there is a plus for me- especially in LFR where I hate playing the "which DK/pally/warrior/druid/monk is the tank" game.

So I have it set up:

Tank
Melee dps
Ranged DPS
Healers

Just makes it a lot easier.

It is all personal preference, with every camp represented by their own biased user base. Download and try them all out briefly, see which one you like the best.

I use grid with mouseover macros. I'm not sure what Clique is..., but either way I'm not a super big addon kinda gal, so just grid. I bind heals pretty much the same way across all healers, save my monk. It's worked out fairly well so far.

Side note: I do have a bunch but I don't use all of them all the time, so I don't consider myself an addon expert by any means. I have a renewing mist tracker for my monk (Since RM doesn't seem to show on grid/have an option on grid. I probably need to update it though) a rapture tracker for my priest, NTK set up for my shaman (riptide, earthliving. Used to tracker water shield but I don't need that anymore.) NTK for my druid for harmony and lifebloom.

I'm not sure what Clique is

It's basically a fancy way of making mouseover macros, with the added benefit that you can bind them to mouse clicks if you want and that you don't need to have a macro slot for every macro and an action bar slot for every bind.

It's generally easier than making macros by hand, unless you want complicated macros that pop trinkets/cds, in which case you're writing them by hand in Clique too.

But if you have all your macros set up and you're happy with them, there's no reason to chance. I have Clique but still do most of my spells via traditional macro.

I've been a holy paladin for close to 8 years now and I use Grid. No mouseover macros are needed to heal effectively. I only bind my Cleanse to Clique.

No one said they were.

We said they were faster. :)

I keep my healbot on when specced prot on my pally. I tend to adjust the size down using profiles but yes it's great for tossing out word of glories in tight situations, bubbling someone who's gotten aggro, hand spells, etc.

I use and love Vuhdo. I have to admit though, that the configuration menu is a maze.

- Mouseover heal
- Show you the best target for a limited distance aoe heal
- What kind of debuffs are important?
- Stacks or durations for buffs/debuffs

All of these sound particularly preferred, will Vuhdo give me the options for these? Also, I'm not really sure what debuffs I should look out for as a healer (I think I'll be going Paladin, btw).

I used x-perl for years, but I've been using the default raid frames this tier with no problems, precisely because it does show all of this, plus range indicators, and it doesn't break every patch.

You can do mouseover heals with macros, you don't need a mod. Macros are better anyway because you can macro your trinkets into your heals to make sure you're using them on cooldown.

I use weakauras to babysit my other cooldowns, and ct_buffmod to watch my own buffs.

You don't strictly need mouseover macros - I didn't use them for a long time and when I did start using them my throughput didn't increase at all. Target-healing has a different rhythm to it. You target, cast, and while you're casting (or on GCD) you target the next person. The main advantage to mouseover healing is that you can keep the boss targeted the entire time so you can help out on dispells, interrupts, and CC as well as DPS on farm content (to a much lesser extent, of course)

Back during Cata, I had my warrior's vuhdo set up similar to tauntmaster. Just made more sense to me to use an addon I already was using that could use a similar functionality.

I actually find this highly unattractive, and much prefer what I can do with Vuhdo.

You can do the same things, visually, with both Addons. If anything Grid/Grid2 has more customizability. What one person does with either is their preference
