I'd like to think that the changes I proposed wouldn't make our burst really any stronger, just bring our sustained up to par.

That's the point though. In design, there are trade-offs like in anything else. If you're a bursty class, you don't get to have sustained DPS. And, if you're a sustained class, you don't get to have a large amount of burst.

Personally, when I play Ret, I like the way it handles...but I can't articulate as to why. Maybe because the rotation is forgiving? I dunno. Just my 2c.

Why not? What about AoE and cleave? You're leaving a big part of the dps situation out of your picture.

According to GC, the trade-off for ret is that we are good on single target and weak on AoE and cleave. I can accept that design goal. But being poor at sustained and good on burst doesn't make us good on single target, it make us what we are: average on single target and poor on AoE/Cleave.

We should have average sustained and good burst to counter our weakness on AoE/cleave situations. We should be a preferred dps spec to have on single target fights to balance the fact that we aren't a great choice for big add or cleave situations.

I would argue that if, as GC has stated very recently, ret is designed to be good on single target and weak on AoE and cleave, they haven't met that design goal yet, because we aren't especially good at single target. We are essentially average at it, albeit with great burst that does matter on a few fights per tier (but not enough to make up for the general perception that ret is a "meh" spec).

And let's look at fury, a spec that will be in direct competition with us. They have great sustained and burst. And better AoE. Okay, we offer a bit more versatility, but warrior has some nice group utility too. Where is our niche?
