Framerate issues on a iMac ever since 5.1

Hi,

I have been getting serious framerate issues ever since 5.1 came out (yes, I've been tolerating it for quite a while now). I have an iMac. My frame rate when I'm instanced (e.g. raids, BGs, scenarios) is generally okay (around 30-40 fps), but as soon as I am in the "real world" (e.g. Pandaria, Orgrimmar, etc), my fps drops to 2-3. It is most noticeable in high-traffic areas, like Org or Shrine of Two Moons. Prior to 5.1, I had about 30-40 fps everywhere (both instances and "real world").

I have turned almost all my settings to the lowest. This issue seems to happen even when I disable all addons. Any ideas or suggestions as to what is happening? Was there a major graphics changes that affected Mac OS X in 5.1?

Thanks!

It's possible there were some Cvar changes that might be affecting things.

I would try moving the config.wtf out and slowly restoring your settings manually to what they were. Take note of the IPV6 and optimize network for speed settings as those can prevent you from logging in.

Then try turning stuff down to see if that makes a difference.

Hmmm - I gave this a try tonight and unfortunately, no improvement. Any other suggestions?

Hey Hyjinx, unfortunately you aren't alone in this problem. I have experienced the same technical issues since the MoP 5.0 patch came out before 9/25/12.

Here's one of the forum posts I made:

Here's a forum post from months ago that was replied to by Machkhan:

Unfortunately, although we were promised many times that this is something they are looking into, even though it's been almost five months now, we still have no fix.

Can someone please give us an update on this problem?

Machkhan, has there been any headway on this issue yet?

Have you tried doing a SMC reset ?

It's possible that some stray voltage somewhere is causing this

Thanks - I gave this a try and it seems to have helped a bit. I'm still sometimes having FPS spikes, but they're a bit more manageable now.

Any other suggestions?
