Topic A Holy Priest's True Calling
I don't have a problem dpsing or healing dungeons.
I think I do pretty decent on the dps charts. I don't have DPS meters to verify, I just assume since I can pull aggro from the tank I must be doing good damage. Don't worry if I see High Threat or Changing Target I fade right away.
But I noticed more, when I started dpsing in MoP, LFG healers are having harder times healing. Well since priests arent the best healers (I guess(i think they are actually really good)), I find it better to just dps as holy priest.
You lose practically zero mana dpsing, if healer starts going OOM you can cast hymn of hope, spot heal, and even switch chakras to take over full healing if healer fails.
So why Holy can be misleading in a DPS context. As of now, I think this is what they are best at, while being that back-up healer in LFGs.
This is what I use my Holy spec for in 10s. It's a really underrated bit of flexibility. I can easily do 50-60% of the damage of our average DPS plus 50-60% of the healing of our two main healers. When we need a full third healer, our boomy goes resto, but when we just want extra healing CDs and some burst help on a DPS check boss, I go Holy.
That said, if you're going to DPS in LFR, might as well just go Shadow. It's not like your healing is ever really going to be needed unless the group is awful, in which case you should be full-on heals, not smiting.
