So if it's a network card issue, it can fixed by getting a Docsis 3.0 modem?

I'll call Comcast soon and see if they can upgrade me to a Docsis 3.0 modem.

No, the modem would help band aid and future proof you. You would have to buy a Ethernet card if it's an network card(Like the one posted earlier by the other person) issue.

Only call Comcast up if you're currently renting your current modem. If you call them up for a modem while you currently own your own modem then you'll be charged the $7 rental fee. Buy the modem I linked if you currently own it yourself. Have you checked your bill for the $7 modem fee to see if you're renting it or not?

Do you know the make and model of your current modem? Seems like an Arris.

I'm still doubting it's your network card as your upstream is still high.

IF you have Xfinity voice it's usually best to rent since finding voice compatible modems and getting them to add it to your account is usually difficult.

Yeah I agree about the upstream part.

Modem is an Arris TM604G/CT.

Ok then you're renting your modem I would assume. Do you have Xfinity voice service?

Should just call them up asking for a Docsis 3 modem. You'll probably get a gateway(Modem/router) combo though :/.

If you don't have voice then you have the option of getting the SB6141 and returning the Arris to remove your $7 rental fee. Keep your receipt if you buy one though since they're usually sneaky and like to still charge you for a rental :o.

You'll probably either get
Gateways with voice functions:(Modem and routers in one but usually poor wireless range)
- http://www.arrisi.com/support/documentation/user_guides/_docs/tg852g-na_user_guide_standard1-4.pdf(Comcast version looks like the SMC)
-http://www.arrisi.com/support/documentation/user_guides/_docs/tg862g-na_user_guide_standard1-3.pdf(Will also look like the SMC)
- Technicolor TC8305C(It's very new though so I doubt they have it)
Regular Modem with voice functions:

It has yet to spike, we will see for sure on raid tonight @ 10 pm- 2 am w/ skype running and streaming music, things that before my internet would handle perfectly fine, if all is good it should not spike.

edit: What upstream am I aiming for?

The good range is about 36-47 for upstream

Also need headroom for temperatures if you live in a place like me with cold winters and warm summers. Modem levels change when the temperatures change too.

For the modem you can also check up on the website for the nearest Comcast service centers. They allow for equipment swaps there but you just have to wait in line if you wait till the afternoon :). Make sure when you install it that you tighten the coaxial cable till it is tight.

Ok all night it performed extremely well not a single hiccup. Even livestreamed a little and nothing went wrong.

Downstream went as low as -1 really late at night (2:22 AM eastern).
Upstream still at 50 dBmV, despite the absence of short lagspikes.

Stats: http://gyazo.com/6f9a0c7b6b0fe1aa3ad15eeafca36977

This is strange..

You're right on the edge so you probably were getting those lag spikes when your power levels moved very slightly and pushed it off the edge. Still get the new modem no matter what though unless you feel fine how you are :).

Hope it stays like that lol.

They offered me a Docsis 3.0 gateway modem. Arrives in 3-4 days, no extra charge fees, let's hope for the best.

Is there a way to use my own router with this gateway by disabling the gateway router or no?

There's a Comcast gateway team I believe. They have a number you can call and ask them to put it in "Bridge mode." You then could use it as just a plain modem and attach your router to the modem.

This is the number I THINK:1-800-363-2416

Just remember that if the modem ever gets reset then you would need to call up again to enable the feature again. The settings for this modem are very limited anyway so you probably would not want to use it as a router anyway.

Should of just went down to the office to swap it out :P. Would it had it today :). - Nvm not many seem to be open on Sundays.

Just to clarify, I'll call them and tell them I want the router feature separated from the new docsis 3.0 modem so I can use MY router right? And all with will work fine?

The setup I use is modem to PC by ethernet cable, and then laptop and 3 mobile phones connect to router.

Just say you want your gateway bridged and they should know what you're talking about when you call that number. Don't call until you get and activate the gateway though.

Once that is done all routing functions and it's wireless should be turned off and you should be able to properly connect your router to it then connect your devices to your router. Once this is done, do not connect any other computers to the modem and only connect the router.

Don't forget to give your current modem rental that they originally gave you back too once you get the new one.
