Keybinding for Lefties?
|
|
Hello all!
I'm very slowly getting this guy geared up and have been practicing my tanking rotations while working up the courage to queue. I have been asked to make this guy one of the lead tanks for my guild but I am having a huge hangup. All of the information on keybindings seem to assume everyone is a right handed mouse user. I use the mouse with my left hand, I have a lot less motor co-ordination in my right and its just how I adapted. Right now I use my number pad for my main rotation skills and my Razer Lachesis for several other buttons. My movement keys are not W A S D and instead are the directional keys on the bottom left of my laptop keyboard. (For reference I am playing on a Sony VAIO that has the number pad.) Is there anyone out there with some tips on good keybindings for those of us southpaws that use the mouse with the left hand? Any help would be massively appreciated! Regards, Your friendly nubtastic DK tank. |

Personally, I wish I was left-handed so I had significantly more keys to keybind with (then again, I could switch to ESDF and do the same thing).
So uh, mouse with your left hand, and use something like TFGH for movement (FH would be strafe here). Heck, I use my left hand significantly more than my right hand when I raid. The right's always on the mouse, half the time it's not doing anything. It uses a tiny bit more precise movement, that's it. |

I have a g700 (righty only), and bound movement to that. Unbinding movement from the keyboard was liberating.
Before I got my shiny sexy mouse, I just taught myself to do things like a righty. It's racist and unfair, but after a week of some difficulty, and you're ambidextrous. I still have movement bound to YTGH (strafing, I unbound keybaord turning entirely--I need those extra two binds), but I barely ever use them. |

I'm right handed but I play wow left handed. If I'm trying out new keybind combos I just reverse the right handed keybinds. So if, for example, the keybinds are q w e, I reverse them to ] [ p (or equivalent on your keyboard).
Alternatively you could just learn to play right handed. If I can learn to play left handed you can learn right handed. I have slightly less motor coordination in my left hand but honestly not enough to make a difference once I practised. If you go this route, beware, you will be horribly uncoordinated for about 2 weeks (3 weeks tops). Once you've got past that you should have no problems. |

Best bet would be to take the same reasoning people use WASD (or those like myself that use ESDF) and simply switch sides: OKL; if you subscribe to the WASD line of though, or IJKL if you're a touch-typist. You'd then pair that up with 7 though = for your "home" keys and adjust from there.
If it were me, I'd probably wind up with U, H, N, O, P and [ all bound, among others. |

wasd works with my right hand on the keyboard, am I just weird?
but 90% of my movement is through my mouse, strafing and a little backpeddling is still required (If I had some form of key on the right side of my mouse, I probably would have that bound and have no movement on my keyboard at all) |

WOO LEFTY PRIDE! *left handed high five*
Personally, I use pl;' (Instead of wasd), and o and [ for strafe left and right for movement keys, and basically set up my keybinds going from right to left (ie, shield slam on = on my warrior, devastate on -, revenge on 0 and so on, from most common to least common, on this, it's Power Word: Shield on =, Prayer of Mending on -, Penance on 0). I then have my interrupt on \ (No matter what class), and various other useful moves on keys around the pl;' (Such as berserker rage on k, shield wall on i, gift of the naaru on .). EDIT: http://imgur.com/EqAnlUc My UI and keybinds, if it helps. ----- Combat tables, diminishing returns and you! http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2489160859 |

I'm a lefty, and I have some advise for you. Having started on a druid in BC where I had tons of buttons I needed to have access to I developed the following key bindings.
An action bar in wow has 12 slots. In my UI I have them stacked in rows of 6. So my bar keybindings look like this: Top Row: Y U I O P [ Middle Row: H J K L : " Bottom Row: B N M My hand rests on the home row. This gives me 15 primary buttons. Additionally I have all of these buttons on other bars with a +shift modifier giving me 30 buttons. And finally I use ], \, /, and backspace for less used powers giving me a total of 34 buttons I can comfortably reach with my right hand. I tab target using Enter, I strafe left and right using < > keys. Good luck! |

Thanks for the advice folks! I ended up having to replace my Mouse today (Went from the Lachesis to the Taipan) and I'll give these keybinds a try :)
I Should also not for those asking about learning to use the mouse right handed. I would if I had the control D: I have a problem with my right hand and I cannot hold the mouse properly. So I'm stuck left handed @_@ |

My friend who is a left hander uses U as forward, and then HJK below it for the equal the WASD and then binds 6789 with the most commonly used skills.

I actually still use the 1-= keys still, honestly. It's still pretty effective. |
