Ok... so I've hit a brick wall in recruiting.. and I am fresh out of ideas and even considered the idea of SGI add on which I dislike btw but I feel like I don't have much of a choice.
My co-gm who is also my fiancee suggested we change the guild name! This terrifies me.. because the guild name is unique like all other guild names.
I just want to ask fellow GM.... please how did your guild name come to be?
Why would changing the guild name have an effect on recruitment? Does your guild have a bad reputation that you need to step away from? Changing the name won't do anything for recruitment; making sure you have focused guild goals, active players, and a fun community gets new folks. Dynamic recruitment ads help, too.
I couldn't even tell you how my guild was named; it's existed on my server almost since it opened in early 2005. I joined later and eventually took over. But it's a RP guild, and was a military unit (we've been through some changes) and so went for a military group name.
Today in chat, after seeing three guilds recruiting (three that are not even in the top 20, which on our server is not hard to do), I said 'I think there is to many guilds for this server:". And boy did I get a numerous agreement on that one. The guilds that are created without any regard to how many active guilds in comparison to the server population is baffling. Worse every man and his dog thinks they can do better (and yes, maybe some can) - you are in fierce competition, changing your name is not going to help any shape. BTW I like the name of your guild - and opinions on what is cool and what is not cool is so subjective and if your partner really thinks it going to help then the name has to be cool to the types of player you want to attract but I doubt it will help you at all. I do not really know of anyone who has joined a guild because of a name - and if a person joins your guild because of your name, I would be wondering how long they will be in the guild til they flitter off to another cool guild name.
@Nidyam, Your Guild name is actually really cool compared to most "trendy" names guilds use now a days IMO. If a name is why people don't join your guild, then they are most likely not the type of people you want in it. I started My Guild with 3 IRL Friends. They are both from New Orleans and we are a no pressure social guild. So <The Big Easy> really fit because it's New Orleans nickname and we are easy going. We play at when we can, but not more than a couple times a week. I think recruits want to see some constant activity. So a big guild is great because every time they log on there is someone to run with. We can't seem to get over the "hump" to have enough people on to keep new recruits. Good Luck!
Like others have suggested a name is a name until you make it a brand.
Theres nothing wrong with your name in fact it is very sleek and can show alot about the characteristics within the guild.
Your level 25.. Thats awesome congrats! Really the only way your going to get recruits is by running things. SGI addon is great for the number boost and sometimes the addon can find really awesome members but it's almost guaranteed that most of those members you recruit are only there to leech the benefits and will not bring anything to the table.
The bad thing about servers especially low pop servers is there's already too many guilds out there but of course you don't want to give up your guild right? I mean after all the hike to 25 should show anyone that your in it for the long haul. Start building reputations with other guild leaders. Often times if you find a guild that has different time zones and they have a player apply that fits yours.. They will send them to you!
Talk the Talk Vs Walk The Walk: You could talk about your guild all day long in trade chat but until you start pugging or doing something in game with the players you have your chance of finding someone is very slim. Set up pugged raids or premade bgs. You would be surprised at the members you can receive within a day just by doing a all raid or bg run.
Hope this helps and is the answer you seek!
