[FEEDBACK] Stance nerf FORCES Mastery

The recent change to Stance of the fierce Tiger forces good monks to reforge/gem mastery.

Here is why:

5.1
--------------------------------------------------
Monks received a 20% damage increase using Tiger Eye Brew. Combined with the mastery of combo breaker , a WW monk was able to gem/reforge haste to generate and build TEB stacks at a more fluid pace.

5.2
--------------------------------------------------
Monks got TEB mastery , 3.9% dmg increase per mastery. 37% increased damage (Base Mastery) Combined with -15% Sustained damage nerf, results in a 22% damage increase with TEB. What this means is that in thoery you are gaining a 2% damage increase from where we were in live at 10 stacks.

What effect this will have on players?

  • -Players will realize that if they dont gem/reforge mastery , they will be dealing only 2% more damage. Without using TEB , thier damage is reduced 15%.
  • -Players will gem/reforge mastery (cookie-cutting) to gain a decent damage increase worth waiting for 10 stacks. Most will shoot for roughly 47% damage increase.
  • -Players will see that it takes LONGER to build TEB stacks , due to giving up HASTE, which affects energy regens.

  • END RESULT: Players will ultimately realize that giving up damage as much as 800k on the ramp up time to have a decent window of damage dealing , is not worth the effort of spending time building TEB stacks, even if it was building at a rate of 2 Chi.

@Ghostcrawler Whats the reasoning behind monk fierce tiger hotfix nerf? I understood the 5.2 nerfs but isn't this too many at once?

@RGSmith We found a last minute bug with our testing related to the lvl 30 talents. It as our mistake unrelated to any performance on live.

ugh. playing the class correctly is now totally dependent on watching trinket procs, one of my least favorite things.

    You're right.

They basically said, "Here, you're going to do 10 to 15% less damage at all times, but we made your mastery worth slightly more than your crit rating point for point and Tigereye Brew stacks a bit faster".

The base mastery puts our Tigereye Brew at 26% when it was at 20% last patch, and the stacks gaining at 3 chi spent instead of 4 chi spent, which means our stacks generation 33% faster. Tigereye Brew used to achieve about a 1/4 uptime. Now it can approach a 1/3 uptime. So before baseline Tigereye Brew would give about a 5% damage increase when averaged out. Now it gives a baseline damage increase of around 8.6%.

So from the stack generation and baseline damage increase we see only a 3.6% damage increase. We're expected to see more from mastery now being slightly better than crit. But really, crit is simming to be very close to mastery, some estimate that crit is about 20% worse than mastery.

I can definitely see the 5% RSK nerf being justified but the nerf we got does not fit.

And as the OP pointed out, if you choose to gear for haste/crit then you essentially got about a flat 10% nerf to your damage.

    I don't understand.

If Mastery wasn't the best DPS stat before the stance nerf, why did the stance nerf make it the best stat?

And as the OP pointed out, if you choose to gear for haste/crit then you essentially got about a flat 10% nerf to your damage.

No matter what you gear for, you just got a nerf to your damage. The stance nerf didn't affect Haste stacking more than Mastery stacking.

The stance nerf was meant to counter-balance our new mastery being better which was flawed decision. Before the patch we would just minimize mastery and stack crit/haste. They buffed our mastery to make it on par with crit so now we can stack mastery/haste as an ALTERNATIVE but it's a sidegrade, it won't significantly increase our DPS without the Rune of Re-Origination trinket.
