OP seriously underestimates the metal potential of Paladins.

You mean to tell me that those are not the least bit metal?

In terms of the class that's most metal, I'd say Death Knight > Warlock > Retribution and Protection Paladin > Shadow Priests > Warrior > militant Holy Paladins and non-Shadow Priests > everyone else

I liked this, but I'd hardly call it "metal." Not sure what I'd call it, but "metal" does not at all come to mind.

Junius -- Birth Rites by Torchlite

These two were OK, though I think my older brother would like them both far more than I do. I liked the Alcest more than the Junius, but I'll concede that neither of them sound like "screaming & banging," & I'd put both of them more into the Nightwish category than the "death/speed/black/thrash" metal I was earlier referring to.

This lasted about 10 seconds on my player, which was enough time for my ears to protest & my hand to move the mouse. Sorry!

If you just prefer clean vocals..there's still plenty of those to be found as well.

Yup but where I live everybody wants to listen to the burping singers lol.

It's a smidge irritating if I'm trying to shop for clothes at Hot Topic ( I'm skinny that's the only place that sells pants I like ) and I get stuck having to listen to all the bad music.

Although there was this one time they played Rammstein so it's a 50/50 when I go shopping.

Online for all clothes, haha. I'm skinny as well, and occasionally I find things I like in HT, but mostly online is the best for me.

And gah! I listen to primarily black/blackened death(or melodic death if you call it that) metal, and I can't stand 99% of the music played in HT. That's definitely not the genre of metal I'd listen to..it's very much the mainstream formulaic screamo type metal that isnt' my thing.

I wasn't aware hot topic played anything anyone likes :O

It depends on the employees working there and their tastes.

Faun falls under pagan/folk metal.

I'm glad you gave them a listen. These are just some of the faces of an extremely wide genre (probably too wide to a fault).

Thank you again for at least giving them a listen ^_^

DK's should be the most metal because like metal they only play 3 notes, 3 very powerful notes, like power chords.

Indeed, thank you for introducing me to Faun. I might even buy a CD of theirs, as I am a sucker for anything that sounds like traditional Celtic/Gaelic folk.

I do find it interesting how others label music sometimes, hehe. From what I've listened to from Faun they don't contain one guitar, so I have no idea how they could be folk metal :P Definitely folk music tho..but more like Helium Vola, Medieval Baebes, or Qntal. Folky..dancey sometimes..medieval and pretty, but not metal.

It's never a problem. I intentionally put the music in order of "easiest on the ears" so that one wouldn't open up the first one (say, the Mucc one) and be horribly unimpressed.

Faun is wonderful, and I also really like ONE cd from Within Temptation, the "Mother Earth" albumn.

There's definitely a lot of metal bands out there that can be classified as evil, though I'd also agree that the more you delve into it the more you see how many of them are anything but that. Immortal, for instance(the most reknowned even if by their humor) has only ever been about mythical subjects and none of which were satanic in nature.

Sabbath was a pioneer..if you think all metal went to the mainstream sounds like Lamb of God(which isn't bad, but isn't my preference) you're sorely mistaken. Please research beneath the mainstream labels :P

Sabbath did start it. If you want to see true evil bands look at Norwegian Black Metal. Lamb of God isn't really mainstream either. If you want to see what most young people listen to that is mainstream it is metalcore.

Let me make a list.
Disturbed - for me it is borderline metal/rock. David is probably one of the best singers out there which is why I love Disturbed. Isn't mainstream because it has it's own lyrical and musical style.

Lamb of God - A lot of people hate on them for whatever reason but they are a good band. Not mainstream either. They play with their own style.. Randy (the singer) has a unique "scream" if you will. I hate using that word because it doesn't describe the way they sing. They bring unique riffs and great drums to the table. Randy brings great singing which when all combined makes a great band. Yes it may not be your thing but you can't really disrespect it.

DevilDriver - I am listening to them right now so I'll list them. With one glance at the name you'd assume it was a Satanic band. No. A DevilDriver is a device or object that pushes away demonic spirits. They are not the most unique band but they have nice riffs and nice drums. They have heavy pounding drums with nice guitar riffs. Again people may hate the vocals but that is cool.

These are current bands that I just listed now on to a different side of metal. The side of metal I grew up on.

Metallica - in the Earlier years was a great Thrash band. James is a great singer. He has great and well known metal voice. In the early albums they brought a lot of respect to the Thrash side of metal. New and Innovative metal that was fast and great.

Megadeth - Dave (singer) was once in Metallica. He was kicked out of the band for being "too crazy". He formed Megadeth which became another great Thrash band. It took what Metallica was and turned it up a bit. Crazy speed riffs and fast drums. Some may not like Daves singing but you can't say Megadeth hasn't influenced Thrash.

Testament - One of my favorite Thrash bands. If you are a Thrash fan you'd know they are not part of the "Big 4" but still one of the greatest Thrash bands. Metallica and Megadeth kind of fell off Thrash Metal. While Testament still sounds great with modern sounds and great singing and awesome guitar riffs and drums. Their newer albums are great.

Now to real mainstream. What you should call mainstream. Metalcore. Some will say that it isn't metal. Yes metalcore is a way to get metal out there. A lot of the bands are just typical metalcore riffs though. Very mainstream.

As I lay Dying - The first metalcore I heard. I hated it at first. I learned to grow respect for them though. They may not bring new innovative riffs or singing to the table but they are bringing some for of metal to younger people. In this day and age people grow up listening to rap. Not good rap either.. The terrible crap like Lil Wayne and all that other junk that pollutes the radio. If it saves these kids from that crap then I'll respect for them.

Sorry for the long list. This is just to address people that call metal now mainstream and call it "just screaming". You can either be stubborn or you can respect it. The choice is yours.

I did say they BARELY slid in there.
I wanted to include them since they are an influence of and are influenced by many bands in the folk/pagan metal sub-genre.
