Spreading the rp!

Hey guys I have a crazy idea that came to me inmy dreams last night! Oh yeah, I dream about WOW...don't you?

Anyway, I was reading on the WET forums that people are looking for servers that rp/pvp. This is something I see frequently.

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/8196650217

Now the sheer numbers of people looking is not that big, but i makes me curious. I have even seen posts from people who are on a hig pop server like Moonguard and I cannot help but scratch my head and wonder why?

I think it is because there are a lot of people who get into their little cliquey things and tend to shut out any new players who join the servers, or they do not feel they have time or energy to guide the new players around. I know this is not intentional. I have met a lot of friendly people here!!

I am going to propose an experiment, a project I have been thinking of for a while now. How many of you have horde alts and gone through the Hillsbrad area and done the quest giver chain? I think it was very entertaining! Not to mention it was a tongue in cheek poke at the many who play the game and end up in these cliched roles.

So my project...is this..a quest relay for rp! What is that? I hear you all saying in your curious voices!

Ok so you are standing in the trade center in Stormwind (or Orgrimmar), you are bored and waiting for that dungeon to pop. Many people are running past you and some may even wave as you pass by, if they know you. New people to the server run in and look around. "Where is the rp?" they ask. You may send them to the nearest bar, but why not do something different?

Introduce yourself and offer some advice on the many groups looking for new members, the usual stuff, I know...but...why not offer a little rp? I had in mind a relay quest, ask that new person, (IC) if they would mind helping you find a friend. Someone you know is online and willing to participate. Give the newcomer some vague directions, a name and send them off. The one who is the friend will happily engage the newcomer in some worthy rp and then maybe offer a few silver, maybe a useful object if they can do so. Now to continue this, the trick is to keep the rp traveling. The friend is now "tagged" and must pass the rp to another person. I suggest an object to be passed, something simple and easily passed from one to another. Lets see how many people it can go through before it is returned to the original person.

This can be done in a side rp without engaging people in your current stories, or you can make them part of it if you wish. Be creative, as I know a lot of you are!!

Well, as an RP noob I have to say I really like that idea. It sounds like a great way to get people RPing.

Also, it's just interesting to think of it traveling like that.

You could put a note on the object telling them to check in on the forums (the Ravenholdt ones) when they receive it. Then you could track it, like those Where's George dollars.

I'm certainly willing to help. There's been several occasions when I'm standing around in SMC─usually chatting with people while studying─and a low level blood elf has scuttled by. If they have a name that sounds feasible in an RP setting, I greet them ICly and ask if they can take care of an errand for me.

So, twice now, I've sent a lowbie out to collect a handful of Small Eggs from the dragon hawks outside the city in exchange for a some gold (a reasonable amount over the market price that's petty to a 90 but helpful at that level). The three or four that didn't accept my RP offer probably thought I was nuts and that's okay, too.

I recall someone mentioning doing something along these lines a little while back, in the starting zones. I didn't hear much else about it after that but I still think it's a good idea and would be willing to help out as my schedule permits.

I also think that this is a very interesting idea. While Aerana doesn't spend much time in low level zones (although that could change if she leaves Dalaran), I'm sure I can find a way to help out with this when I'm around. Some of my alts would enjoy sending people scurrying here and there for things.

Thanks for the idea, Marlyna! I really enjoy seeing your enthusiasm for Ravenholdt and its RP!

I like this. Maybe I will give it a try very soon in random areas.

One of the things I really liked about Cenarion Circle was the welcoming Community. If you announced in the rp channel you are new to the server, you have offers of gold or bags, and lots of guild invites!

We need to do this as well. I suggest setting up a thread on the forums here and offering to set up a Welcoming Committee. Maybe even a guild could do that? Actively promoting RH on the World's End Tavern threads is good too.

When I am on and not particularly busy, I will make bags and offer them to new realm transfers. If I know they are there!!

So note to new transfers, join the /rp channels and let us know you are here!!

Sylvia,

While we don't have an official committee, there are a group of us who work to provide transfers with materials and such. Maybe we could all collaborate together and see if we're missing anything in particular. I know that I provide bags and try to answer question. Maybe there's a way to make this more formal. My only concern with that is that we don't want to limit the committee at all since we all may or may not be online when transfers arrive on the server.

I will promote as much as I can. I think reaching out to the other forums (as evidenced by Durh's thread) is an excellent idea!

And yes, transfers: join the /RP channel and let us know you're around, please! =)

I am surprised we are so quiet now, where is everyone? New season and content I know, but the rp seems to be so quiet you can hear a pin drop!!

Do you mean RP in general on Ravenholdt, or our activity here on the forums?

Remember how proactive RP tends to be around here. You really have to get out there to make it happen─which isn't a bad thing, necessarily.

I'm on the Horde more often than Alliance these days, but I'm sure people in /rp would respond if you said something along the lines of "Looking for RP @ <location>, come join me!"

If you happen to find yourself on the other side of the fence, use /horde to try and set something up.

I tried that as well. Got one half hearted answer, was in a dungeon and when I came out they were gone. I think people are getting tired of WOW in general.

I was hoping to spark some rp and get things active, but not happening.

If there's one thing I can say it's this: Do not get discouraged, Sylvia. It takes time to stir this community up, but if you keep trying, slowly people will start to respond. I think that it's going to take people a little while to realize that you're offering RP whenever you can and, in time, that will draw a crowd.

Another thing to keep in mind is that with the new patch, people are rushing to get things done. That always tends to slow down RP just a little bit.

I'd like to make a suggestion that people talk in trade more on both factions. There are all these small to medium size guilds these days talking amongst themselves. /Rp and /Horde are cool but maybe unknown to a lot of people. Just my two cents.

Very good points, Aerana!

I'm glad you are being proactive in your search for RP Sylviagray. Don't give up! We need enthusiastic RPers like you to step up to the plate and make things happen.

Just don't get discouraged if you don't see immediate results. Chalk it up as a valiant attempt and try again the next time you are available for some RP.

Please stop giving this kid of advice. This is bad. I've been in trade chat, I don't recommend that to anyone

Join us. We RP quite a bit in the world and in gchat. We have two 20 something Bloodfuries who are leveling together and would be happy to wait for you to catch up and make it a third.

I kind of agree that many people are getting tired of or have left WoW, but that just means we get to sit closer. Come to our campfire and get warm.

:)

If people surrender trade to a few trolls then new players are greeted by said trolls.

Honestly though, alliance trade is so dead that trolls must be a rarity these days.

Yes, please don't give up. I came here hoping to learn to RP and have found it very daunting as a "noob." I have yet to dive in and actually try it. On WrA we did not RP, but it was not unusual for people to be RPing around you, and every now and again they would actually direct the RP towards you, and you would be like, wait, what?

The couple of times I tried to answer them was fun. I guess I was expecting something similar here and made up my mind that this time I would not be so shy when approached. I would actively search for a guild and really try to get into it. I started writing our profiles and everything, but the reality is I am here now, and it is just not happening for me. I have kind of given up. We just kind of fell back to our own guild and have hunkered down running dailies and LFR.

We will stay because we still love the fact that it is CRZ free, and hopefully we will slowly work out way into RP, but diving right in like you have is commendable, and I hope you don't give up on it!

I'm very sorry you haven't been able to find what you are looking for Brinsasha. Don't just 'kind of give up."

Have you checked out the RP Sanctum? www.ravenholdt.us

There are A LOT of dedicated RPers there, both Alliance and Horde, and it is a great resource to find some names of active players. There are also several weekly public RP events going on that are announced on the site. You might want to try to make it to one of those? There was a poetry session hosted by Bardic Tales on the Alliance side..that was a lot of fun!

We must work together─all of us─if we want to make RP flourish on Ravenholdt. Every single player who wants to see this has to get out there and make it happen, one encounter at a time.

It's a daunting task, to be sure. Don't get discouraged when it seems your efforts are not producing any results.

Yes 1000x.

Special shout out here to Sylviagray as well.

Brinsasha, who is 'we'? I may just bump into you on some ally alts.
