New Gaming Laptop - Sha of Lag

Was curious, I just came back to the game a bit ago and I purchased a new Gaming Laptop from OriginPc and it runs everything GLORIOUS... except one snag I'm finding is that I get amazing FPS everywhere but then fighting Sha of Anger, those constant smoke clouds start lagging my system quite a bit and was wondering that other than that I maintain a steady 60 FPS, even in Stormwind and elsewhere even with a ton of players around.

Is there something wrong with the Particle Effects on Sha of Anger?

EON17-S Gaming Laptop from OriginPC

Runs everything non-WoW gorgeous, but seems the Sha of Anger is making me... a bit disappointed but I'm not sure if it's the Laptop or if it's the effects when nowhere else in WoW does it happen.

Have you tried reducing shadow quality?

Most other games are not processor intensive as wow. They are more GPU bound the CPU

Which I-7 if you got the 2 core that could be your problem. Its preformance is below some of the I-3's.

Quad Core.

As for shadows I set them to low because honestly... I don't care for them.

Not sure why it's displaying the INTEL HD display adapted, I have a NVIDIA Geforce GTX 675 MX installed on it.

Wingblue,

Are you sure the game is using your NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675MX and not the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000?

If you post your gx.log file, we should be able to verify the faster, more capable card is in use.

The file is located in your World of Warcraft\Logs folder. It's written each time the game session is closed so make sure the game isn't open when looking for it.

How do I set it to use Nvidia? I went into the Nvidia Control panel and told it to use the Nvidia one.

Sorry for triple post, I can confirm that I did set everything to Auto Run all 3D apps with the Nvidia card.

Wingblue,

Looks like it's using the Intel. You can tell by the Vendor ID listed in the log.

"VID: 8086" - 8086 is Intel

There would be a line like this if it were an Nvidia part.

3/27 16:01:47.555 CGxDevice::D3d9AdapterID(): RET: 1, VID: 10de, DID: 1080, DVER: 90012.d02b9

10de is Nvidia. this is for my system here at work using a GTX 580

See if you can right click on the desktop icon for the launcher and access the option to set it to always use the Nvidia graphics for the application.

I told it to do so but the log file still points to the 8086.

Wingblue,

You might check with Origin then to see if they have a way to disable the Intel HD part or perhaps they provide a way to force the Nvidia card to be used in an app that differs from the normal method.

Also, I can't tell the driver version the Nvidia part is using. If you've updated it and used the Nvidia's reference drivers, it may have "broken" the functionality of auto-switching if Origin has made any proprietary changes. You might want to try using the latest drivers they have on their support site.

I actually think I found the issue.

Maybe.

Even though the gx file says Intel is detected, I can confirm by Windowed mode that the Nvidia is being used for WoW-64.exe when it goes. I decided to test this by completely disabling the Nvidia driver, going in and see how high my settings can go. I did it again with Nvidia enabled and the Systray to tell me it's being utilized and the graphics were godly. I think there may be a small snag somewhere that WoW can't recognize Nvidia's Optimus tech right now because there's a huge difference if I fully disable Nvidia and keep it enabled because it is switching to the GTX for WoW.

Wingblue,

Can you try cranking all the settings up to Ultra by moving the slider all the way to the right? Your hardware should support it fine. You'll have to wait for the Sha event to start before you'll see if it's made a difference but that's about all I can think of to try right now.

Everything in your gx.log file tells me it's using the Intel though. Compare yours to mine.

Yeah, all settings to Ultra, saw a little lag in Stormwind for a second then everything was absolutely beautiful... with the same config I had.

Going to attempt a fix I saw a while back on the forums here:

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/2593006174

basically forcing the DX11.

Wingblue,

You're already using DirectX 11 as shown by this line in your config file.
