Topic Call me crazy, but I miss vanilla ret pvp
60 Human Paladin
We weren't the sharpest sword on the rack, but we could eventually outlast anybody 1v1 except a manaburning shadow priest in a duel. I had some epic fights, and i never went into a single one without the confidence of knowing i could win. We could certainly get lucky and bring the pain as well.
In the slower paced vanilla game where classes didn't all mirror each other, we could actually step back and play paladin for a bit. The uniqueness of bop and bof gave us superior utility. It was common to stop attacking, bop the mage, bof the war, spam cleanse some cc off the healers, and toss some holy lights, then go right back into fighting as our team rolled over the enemy thanks to our job well done.
Even better, we never died. We were always the last class on the battlefield. Nobody wanted to waste their time attacking us, and if they did, we could just heal and run away. We were so unkillable blizz didn't give us any resilience on our first tbc pvp set, and i think the repercussions are still felt today.
I'm not going to say we should bring back the olden days (that were really a two year beta test for paladins), but i think i prefer it to the blow cooldowns, literal finger roll over keyboard, and then die because pure dps heals more than us style we have now. I have always hated dying, and it's too bad none of you newer guys had the chance to experience what it was like to rule the battlefield.

Waiting for Seal of Casino to proc was never fun. I wouldn't call Vanilla anything more than what you say, 2 year long beta test. I don't remember the reason for going more than the points you needed for SoComm, other than Kings. Not having Kings in PVP was fine. You could go Holy/Ret and get more healing, since going deeper into Ret hardly offered more reliable dps.

We can't spam cleanse, that's the only difference. Ok we don't have HL either, but I'd say our healing is a lot better than it was. Hard casting doesn't work against people smart enough to interrupt... and then lock us out of everything. Except Turn Undead, pretty sure that used to be a nature spell ;o
There are things about classic that I liked too. But when you step out of nostalgia and look at the classes/specs, a couple were just poorly built from the ground up.
