Topic My PC is slow... insight would be helpful!
Hey forum goers!!! Im sure this has been posted many times over but why not do it again.
My name is Sky and I reside in the ruins of Dalaran ;-p Jk mostly Im around but never in these parts of the forum.
Recently (and by recently I mean November) I upgraded to an Asus X75V laptop with an i5 and at first I was lovin the huge upgrade, however as of late my top for some reason or another has been giving me issues with WoW. ITS SLOW AS POO!!!
As a raider of course I run addons and keep them up-to-date. As well I do not use the Blizzard UI rather RealUI, which is has been fantastic as well as a few addons that I also download through Curse.
This top is solely for WoW so I keep everything to a minimal, no iTunes, no torrenting, and barely any web surfing (I do that on my desktop). So other than WoW, Curse Client, and Vent there is nothing added other than the default programs.
So here is what I have done so far
1) Ran Malwarebytes
3) went through my add/remove list and made sure there werent any "Hidden programs" downloaded
So what else is there to do?
Do I have to delete my WTF and Cache and have to redo my settings to my UI?
Again insight is greatly appreciated!!!
Uh you're going to have to define "Slow" here.
As in it takes forever to launch?
It randomly lags graphically during game play?
It takes forever to connect?
It takes the loading screen a long time?
For now I'm just going to assume you mean it's slow to launch.
First and foremost, is the game just continuously stuck in something like "Launcher Updating"? As in the launcher appears, but takes forever for the play button to become active? If so you're going to have to do a google search/forum search on this for the multitude of solutions people have developed. (Actually I'm helping someone else deal with this issue later today).
Quick fixes to this do include launching the game from the wow.exe file in the programs folder, running the repair tool, or deleting (alternatively just move the folder to another location so the game can't reference it) the WTF, cache, and update folders. Other than that you'll have to do a search for some more creative options. Such as reinstalling.
So no major background programs are running other than chat clients and a few addons.
Does the program have the same problems when ran as administrator?
I highly doubt this is an issue but sometimes anti-virus programs can slow the launching of several programs. So if you have any bloated anti-virus programs such as McAfree or Norton this can occur.
If not I suggest you try another anti-virus just for a second opinion.
The other options can vary in that your computer may be over-heating (check to see that it's all clean with good air flow) or that the HDD can in fact be dying and needs to be replaced.
