Topic How does the Arena Pass system work?
I have been involved in PvP since late cata and I really enjoy it. I recently moved my main to a different realm I have been wanting to get more involved in PvP and this "Arena Pass" but I just don't know where to start.
My main questions are do I need a certain rating to apply?
Do I need a partner/team or do they just stick us with different players?
How long is it between each Arena Pass? Like after each one how long will it be before the next one?
How does the bracket system work and where can I see it?
If one were to win what would they receive?
Basically what is everything I should know if I know nothing at all about this? I know this is a very newbish question I just have been wondering about this for awhile and I figured I just might as well make a thread about it.
Ok, so answering your questions based on how I remember it being done in previous years. Now, Blizzard may decide to do it way differently this year, so don't take this information as fact.
Yes, you have to buy Arena pass whenever they launch it, that will give you access to the Arena Pass realms where you can create up to 3 free level 90s. The arena pass realms have nothing on them except some PvP vendors that give you free gear so you can't raid or do dungeons or quest or level or anything liek that. The format of the tournament is 3v3 Arenas. There will be the ladder phase and the top teams from the ladder will get chosen for a regional tournament. And the top 2 from each region (North America, Europe, Taiwan, China, Korea) will be at the Battle.net World Championship which is typically held at Blizzcon. That is a double elimination best of 5 tournament or something similar. Last year, the world champion team won US$105,000.00 or something like that.
Note: The region is for where your license key is located. That is all. So Aussies playing on US servers will be on the North America region.
You don't need a certain rating, Blizz just wants your money.
You will want to find a regular team, there may be some looking in the chat channels, but your best bet is to get some friends to play with you. The format is 3v3, so you need 2 friends plus yourself. Why do you want a regular team? After the first few weeks, teams will get their team rating penalized for roster changes. So, if you have two different healer classes you'd like to try on the 3v3 team, put both characters on the team. Winners of the ladder phase are decided after a while by their team rating on the ladder (not individual rating). The ladder system works just like they do on live realms, except all the arena tournament realms are on the same "Battlegroup" or ladder.
They do an arena pass tournament every year. It has started at about this time of the year and the grand final for the world championship is held at Blizzcon. The arena tournament realms stayed open for a few months afterward, but the rewards to be earned were already passed out, so the realms are just for fun after Blizzcon.
Last year, the top three teams from the world championship tournament got cash prizes. The #1 team got like US$105,000. If you get to a top certain percentage of teams during the ladder phase, you will receive a title and feat of strength on the live servers. Just for paying your money and participating, you will receive a feat of strength and a pet on the live servers.
