Looking to see what type of message our guild name is sending. I'm not the GM but am a high officer, and the current GM didn't start it, but what given it years ago. We got into the idea of changing the name, but that was before the service was offered, and haven't touched on it much since.
But, based on the name, what would you infer about us?
I find it interesting, it brings to mind 'Dragon Assassins' which I think is a fun term, though I'm not entirely sure it fits with WoW. As far as I know, none of the dragon flights have rogue-type's, your typical assassin kind of class. Nor do any other dragon-like faction. Another think it makes me think of, are the Saurok in MoP, which do have rogues, and are quite assassin like.
Whether that is interesting for your guild or not (Being pictured as Saurok assassins) I wouldn't know.
lol funny you say that b/c the current GM is a rogue. I think kinda the same thing you think, with the dragon assassins - though I don't think we've killed any dragons except the one in Nexus and Occulus.
We're a social guild; we try to get into casual raids but it doesn't happen.
I kind of break guild names down into the following categories:
Enigmatic (It might mean something to someone, but I'm often not sure...)
Offensive to Just About Everyone
(any of these can attempt to be funny or serious)
Only the last 3 ever bother me.
I'd say your name falls into the Enigmatic category. Dragon Assassins. When I think of assassins, I think of a more PVP-oriented group.
I guess it comes down to how you feel about it really. If you want something that means more to your GM and core group, change it. If you've become comfortable with the name, leave it.
I didn't name my guild. I wasn't even around at it's conception. However, I like the goofiness of it and connection to the game. It also has been around our server for a long time, so changing it would be weird.
You are correct. Although 'draco' as a root is 'dragon'. I like your interpretation better :)
I think a guild name is important. It is the first thing people see and get an impression of who you are. Sometimes a guild name reveals whether it is social or raiding guild. My guild is a raiding guild and most of us come on late afternoon and night thus the name "Dusk Til Dawn".
Also it realates to popular movie in the past. So its a catchy name that advertises itself. I would suggest you have a guild meeting asking members to come up with guild names and meet again in 2 weeks and see what everyone has to offer and then vote on it. This is a way to involve members and a way they have an active part in guild decision also. Hope this helps you in some way. Good Luck!
The guilds I have been in had good names...
Clan Darkphoenix: Friends/Social leveling guild in BC
Far From Heaven: 25m Raiding guild WOTLK (movie name and these guys/gals were FFH)
Murlocalypse: 10 m Raiding guild in WOTLK (I liked the name a lot, some did not)
Casually Serious: 25m Raiding guild in ICC 10m Raiding guild Cata(perfect guilddescription)
Recidivism: founded by English major and writer who raided in BC and brought
their RL friends back with them in ICC.
Casually Serious was a great name for a casual raid guild that took their raid time seriously.
A great name won't mean you will be successful, but a poor choice can gimp your recruiting.

My first thought is that it is a pvp guild, if so, pretty cool name.
For a pve guild it would sound more like people misused draconian but still...
It's not a bad name, isn't offensive, true it doesnt' make me go "ooo I'd like to have that guild tag" but it wouldn't turn me off from joining either (and yes I have reconsidered joining a guild just on disliking the name before)
If your guildies don't care for the name then by all means, find a new one :D

Interesting interpretations. As stated before, I wasn't around when the guild was made, and the current GM isn't the original one that made it, so we don't know what the original GM was trying to portray when he made the name.
We're actually a casual, social guild, though I did like the interpretation of pvp guild. Wondering if our name fits a casual, social theme.
Threats of violence. We take these seriously and will alert the proper authorities.
