Tanks Are Not As Easy As They Seem To Be
05/14/2013 06:22 PMPosted by CreorducciIn raids for example tanking is a lot harder then dps.
False. Now Im going to go a tiny bit into why I stand by tanks being the easiest raid role/easiest to carry.
Which role is the worst to have bads at by skill:
Complete Window Licking: Tank
Can follow simple instructions but fails at mechanics more often than acceptable/poor class knowledge: Healer
Pretty much everything above from mediocre/acceptable upward: DPS
Point being, once you get past the level of effectively undermanning bosses because a person is totally inept, tanking is the easiest role, and easiest to carry, because you dont even have to be good to tank, just functional. And to be completely frank most of what seperates the high end of tanks to the low-but-functional ones are things most people wont notice.
Most of the raid content has sections and mechanics that require the DPS to be on point and doing things right, or you wipe:
Jin'rohk: DPS/Heals have to drag lightning balls out and stand in the water at the right times
Horridon: DPS have to nuke the adds and keep the dinomancer from healing horridon
Council: DPS have to kill the spirits when spawned, interrupt the sand bolt...and not stand in the sand
and the list goes on and on and on...
DerPS are a dime a dozen...good DPS are a god send
Not saying it's the hardest, but I think Demo's assumption that any old scrub can tank well is wrong for MoP.
Its not that hard to heal a tank using his AM wrong through normals
Combat tables, diminishing returns and you!
I think a lot of people confuse easiness with forgivingness. While there is a correlation between the two, they're kinda different. Tanks are generally easier, but are much less forgiving than dpsers. If a dpser messes up, it's not always too bad. If a tank messes up and dies, it can easily spell a wipe.
Combat tables, diminishing returns and you!
Also should be noted that while a tank death is much worse than a DPS death, tanks are more forgiving as far as surviving mistakes, on most fights
Depends on the fight. Tank mechanics in MV seemed harder than the mechs in ToT but I've only got lfr experience of ToT.
Tank mechanics in ToT are pretty easy IMO.
Although I'm kinda with Demolition on this, that you absolutely CANNOT have a windowlicking terrible tank or your raid is in trouble, but you CAN have a mediocre tank who knows the basics and you'll probably be fine for the most part.
Mediocrity in DPS is a lot more noticeable and impacts the raid more than mediocrity in tanking, but terrible tanking impacts the raid more than terrible DPS (especially in a 25-man).
Not more than 30 minutes ago me and our other guild MT got on our pally/monk tanks and tanked the first tot of lfr, on council after a wipe someone blamed us for positioning, completely negating the fact that a warlock put up his portal and ported in with about half the raid present, but yes it was our fault that we wiped missing 5/17 dps and positioning was bad because we were at the stairs when the pull happened.
And honestly the difficulty of each role is determined by the fight and mechanics, however I will say tanking in MOP is not as face role as it once was, its no longer gear up correctly and hit your buttons, it now matters how your doing stuff, a tank that's good with their AM can live for a hell of a lot longer than a tank that's bad with their AM.
Tanking people, now that's hard. There's people who expect you to be a) good, b) knowledgeable, c) responsible, and worst of all, d) care about their problems. Sometimes they even want you to 'help' them, where help means do voodoo magic and make them not have to put effort in.
If I wanted your baggage I'd work at an airline. Well, I'd probably kill everyone doing loopyloops but the moral of the ramble is TURN TAUNT OFF YOUR PETS, MURLOCFACE!

Airlines employ people besides pilots btw
This seems like a problem for someone who follows 'guidelines'.
In LFR, DPS is the easiest, healer middle and tank is the hardest. Y?
DPSers even don know the mechanic, still can win the fight as they can be carried by other dps.
However, tank if do sth wrong in LFR, it will cause wipe easily.
In normal / heroic raid, tank is the easiest, healer in the middle and DPS is the hardest.
According to my exp, train a tank in normal / heroic raid is much much easier than train a dps.
Most normal / heroic raid wipe not because of tanking, but dps. Normal / heroic MOP raid require DPS to do more things than healers and tanks.
In normal / heroic raid, if DPS fail to interrupt, attack wrong mobs, stand on wrong location, run to wrong side, low dps...etc, all cause wipe.
For example, ToT Jinrokh, tank just need to do switch taunting and position the boss correctly. However, DPS need to run to pool to attack boss, run out of pool when get focus lightning and try to survive if run too far. DPS MUST NOT drop focus lightning near the fissure and in the pool.
In Horirdon, Tank also just need to do switch taunting and position the mobs and boss correctly, but DPS need to interrupt and kill the specific mobs while avoiding so many fire on ground. DPS must try their best to put out as much DPS as they can so that the mobs can be killed faster. High DPS need to watch out their buff, rotation and priorities.
In Council, tanks still the same job, but dps need to watch out for loa spirit, sand, empowered etc...
any mistake from any player at any time spells a wipe.
Still varying rooms for error.
Mistakes, big mistakes, and doing something obscenely stupid are all entirely separate things.
