A troll slouches through the front gates of Orgrimmar, narrowed eyes flickering across the valley, fixed scowl tightening slightly at the sight of the numerous Kor'kron guards. Despite his hunched posture and his rolling gait, he is a curiously imposing figure: his green and gold armor bears the insignias of half a dozen different campaigns, and the simple wooden staff strapped to his back seems to tremble with hidden power.
The troll approaches the auction house, glances inside, then shrugs and settles down on his haunches in the dirt near the entrance. He spends a few moments watching the small, transient groups of shoppers form and dissolve, then begins to speak, addressing no-one in particular.
"So. Feels like things starting to fall apart again." The troll's voice is rusty and flat, with none of the typical sing-song cadence of his race. "We drove off Deathwing, sure. But now... now we fighting each other. And some, some don't fight at all. Some just go."
He gestures vaguely with one hand, sweeping the fingers in a motion of dismissal. "Just go, whole tribes, gone to the winds. My tribe. Gone. Me, I stay, until one day I wake up and nobody left. So, I go too."
The troll looks up. A scant handful of people have stopped to listen to him, but his gaze slides over them, taking in the whole valley. "So. I come here. Got no tribe, got no kin, I come some place new. I hear things about this place, about its people. Hear these people are few, but strong. Strong ties, strong tribes, strong fighters. Like what I hear. So. Wonder if maybe I find a place here."
The troll's mouth twitches oddly, and he suddenly rolls his shoulders with a fluid movement. The scowl deepens, and he clenches his teeth, speaking with difficulty. "So. Nothing else to say, me. Take it or leave it." He shakes his head almost violently, but the gesture seems to ripple down through his body. His figure blurs, stretching upwards, and the lean body of the troll shifts into the form of a great cat in mid-leap.
With a triumphant yowl, the cat lands neatly on its feet. Its fur is vividly blue, with a wild shock of yellow mane, and the cat's lips are peeled back, exposing a set of cruelly sharp teeth.
The cat glances around at the slowly gathering crowd, and its mouth stretches further into an unmistakeable grin. "Ah, that is infinitely better!" The cat's voice is sharp and dynamic, spiraling from a clear baritone up into a high countertenor, then sinking back into a rumbling, purr-infused bass.
"Trolls are not meant to walk upright like that. Not when they can turn into kitties, at least! And I am the best of kitties, o yes I am. I can pounce, I can dance, I can shred and thrash and rip!" The last words are accompanied by a set of deliberately showy paw swipes: right, then left, then right, each swipe sending the cat plunging forward toward the crowd. At the end of the last swipe, the cat's nose collides with the knee of a large, well-armored tauren. The tauren grunts. The cat laughs, deliberately cuffs the tauren's ankle with one sheathed paw, then pivots nimbly on its hind legs and prances back to the center of its self-made stage.
"I'm a kitty! Kitties are for fight, so saith Lord Alamo in the elder days, and lo, I am a splendid kitty. Yea, I am a many-splendoured thing, a-swirl with color, voracious and loquacious and playful."
The cat pauses, blinking its bright amber eyes as it ponders its own words. "Play! Play is what kitties do best. I need friends to play with, to hunt... with? Or to hunt friends? I need prey for my play, and I do not hunt alone. O, ye gods and little fishes, send me a score of partners for the dance, and we will chase each other in circles from the den of the dragon mother to the lair of Lei Shen! All the world will be our prey, I pray, and our enemies will be confounded!"
The cat's tail twitches with excitement at the thought, and the beast's attention is caught by the movement. It slowly lowers its body to the ground, slim flanks wriggling in anticipation, tail flicking now from side to side. For a moment, the cat holds itself perfectly still... then it springs sideways, twisting its body in on itself, yowling as it sinks its fangs into its own bright blue tail. Its feet scatter the dust into a cloud as it frantically chases its tail, spinning faster and faster until its body blurs.
The blur suddenly bulges, swelling out from the center and slowing, and after a moment, the dust clears to reveal a massive blue bear wearing a feather charm necklace and a bemused expression. The bear shakes its heavy head slowly from side to side, then sits down with an audible thump. It notices the moderate crowd of spectators, and ducks its head in embarrassment.
"Sorry about the commotion, folks, I didn't mean to cause any fuss." Despite the imposing size of the bear, its tone is gentle, almost comforting. "Bein' in a strange new place confuses me a little, I guess. Truth is, I'm just looking for a new home, and some friendly faces."
The bear nods at the crowd, his easy-going nature evident from his relaxed pose. "I don't need much from life: give me a pack of enemies to swipe and some allies to swipe 'em for, and I'm happy. I like bein' right in the thick of things, but even when I have a dozen different kinds of dog snapping at my flanks, I'm more likely to chuckle than roar at 'em. I like seein' new places, and revisitin' old ones. I like..."
The bear offers a wry smile, tusked mouth curving amiably. "Well, I like most things, I guess. And I like most people, too. And the things I don't much like, well, I can put up with 'em anyway. I'm a bear, and bears is a patient sort of folk. So, how 'bout it? Any of you fine strangers lookin' to make a new friend?"
The bear blurs, compressing itself into the lean, feral shape of the cat. The cat grins, and adds "... or a playmate?"
Another blur, and the figure of the troll appears once more. Now that his inner natures have been revealed, traces of them can be seen even in his humanoid form: the wicked madness of the cat gleams in his narrowed eyes, and his hunched shoulders echo the shambling strength of the bear. "Or a tribesman?"
The troll shrugs, then settles back down on his haunches, head lowered, waiting.
((I'm a recent transfer to the server, inspired to take the plunge by three things: the 50% discount on character services this week, the slow death of a guild I had raided with off and on since WotLK, and the unique nature of VeCo as an RP-PVP non-CRZ realm.
There are a few things I'm looking for in a guild. First and most obviously, I'd like to have other people around - being in a guild wouldn't do me much good if I was the only person online most of the time. Secondly, I'd like to be able to do stuff with those other people. I know VeCo isn't exactly progression raiding central, but that's fine - my student days are pretty far behind me, I just don't have time for the "16 hours of raid time per week or you're benched and lose your DKP" grind. I do, however, love doing alt runs, and transmog runs, and achievement runs, and while I'm not much of a PvPer, I could be talked into it. Finally, I'd like to be in a guild that encourages or at least tolerates roleplay. It doesn't need to be 24/7 perfect in-character behavior in guildchat or anything, but it'd be neat to immerse myself in the world and my role within it sometimes. So, are there any guilds on Horde side that would be a good fit for me?))
Hello and welcome to VeCo! Thanks for joining our community and doing it with style!
Thunderhoof Clan is a tauren-only guild, but there are a number of horde-side guilds that would love to have you join up--I am sure one of the reps form those guilds will speak up in no time. In the meantime, you are always welcome to visit us on the Bluff until you find your home.
Welcome to VeCo! Glad to have you join the community. I'll be takin advantage of the character services sale and looking for a horde guild as well. If you want someone to do stuff with until you find your new guild home, hit me up!
/swings watch back and forth and counts down..../whisperTauren.You want to be Tauren.
I was incredibly close to choosing Tauren... in the end it came down to Tauren, Goblin or Belf.... However, the name "Rydelle" didn't seem to "fit" a Tauren or Goblin....
I love introduction posts like these.
Aye you'll find veco's strong and helpful community is the server's strong point. Now is the time i do a shameless plug and guide you towards the Blacktooth grin? We could use another druid during our raids or in our RP.
We are a close ally to the thunderhoof guild and we encourage RP and pvp among our ranks. Ask any grin for more info and we can help ya settle in! Though be warned, we are a orc clan! We kick the weak in the rear and we respect the strong even if they are our enemies. Though OOC wise, we are all equal here! :D
Threats of violence. We take these seriously and will alert the proper authorities.
