I'm a good Discipline Priest Healer (usually in the top 3 in LFR raids etc) and I fully admit that Shadow (my usual questing spec) is NOT my forte. I'm almost exalted with Golden Lotus but the final stages of the daily quest line seems to have escalated in difficulty where I will probably have to decline taking it up from now on.
I'm talking about "The Thunder below" and "The Crumbling Hall" - I must have spent an entire afternoon between those two (and lots of gold in repairs) trying to complete either but pretty much giving up on it, the sheer number of NPCs trying kill me and the respawn rate is just too fast.
I can well see that I am going to hit Exalted without completing those.... IOW not get the Achievement.
Do anyone have any comments or advice? I have browsed the forums but most of the advice are coming from high-damage DPSers - and I find that notwithstanding all the improvements Blizz have made to the game, I still have to choose Healer gear over DPS gear when the opportunity comes up (Read: I will probably never be as well geared as a good DPS player).
EDIT: I forgot to mention that my gear level are still under 480 in both specs - I only made 90 fairly recently - but that should not have an effect anyway).

I just quest as Disc... things may die really really slow, but the mobs die and I do not. =)
That's what I did on both of mine, I found it just far easier to kill things as disc. Even killed rares on both, even in low ilvl gear.
If you're not too far from exalted (you're at 15k currently) you could run the daily dungeon, daily senario, and do a heroic scenario for rep I think those all together alone are around 1k rep or so? I honestly think that's how I hit exalted on my other disc priest, I don't remember those quests :3
Not sure what achieve you're referring to, if is just exalted you need you can also supplement your rep on your farm if its fully unlocked.
If you need those specific quests for it, have you tried asking someone in the zone or trade to help you out? Even if you can partner with another healer it should be easier. My dps set is always pretty lacking so I've had a good bit of luck in just asking for help with stuff like that.
Hmmm... Thank you for the suggestions. I recall being quite astounded after passing that "Trial of the White Tiger" (or whatever it's called - the one that allows you entrance to the Vale) in Discipline spec, after failing twice in Shadow.
The problem still is dealing with mobs - they hit really hard in "The Crumbling Hall" http://www.wowhead.com/quest=30277/the-crumbling-hall and not to mention "The Thunder below" http://www.wowhead.com/quest=30280/the-thunder-below - which may still be a problem in Discipline spec.
Additionally, you can select one rep, on your rep pane, by clicking the "star" to the left of the rep you've chosen... and once per day, you'll get I think it's 600 rep for that faction from doing a 5man heroic.
If it's completionism you're after (ie, even if you can hit Exalted by other means, you still want to complete all of the quests), I highly recommend doing the quests in Disc spec. It may take you a while to whittle the mobs down as they accumulate on you, but use Mindbender *aggressively* for his dps, *never* neglect to Pain Suppression yourself, use Power Infusion for additional punch for your Smiting (ie... faster Smites), or Twist of Fate for the +damage & + healing bonus at lower health percentages... and don't hesitate to use PW:B as a personal cooldown, similar to PS.
When you can coordinate it, DoT the mobs up with SW:Pain before returning to the one you're focusing with HF/Penance/Smite. When you're not overwhelmed by keeping yourself alive, keep an eye out on the mobs for any which have fallen to low enough health that you can SW: Death. Possibly take the Glyph of SW: Death.
If you already have Weakened Soul, Penance is already on cooldown, and you're needing to Flash Heal or Gheal yourself, it'd be beneficial to pop Inner Focus at that time, to give yourself a guaranteed-capped Divine Aegis shield.
Take Psyfiend, and Fear them away from you when you're feeling overwhelmed (and of course use your regular Psychic Scream, too).
Consider Glyph of Weakened Soul, so you can re-apply your PW:S 2 seconds earlier.
Possibly take Spectral Guise, for your level 60 talent?
Take either Cascade or Divine Star as your lvl 90 talent? I'd tend to favour DS because it has such a short cooldown, maybe?
Take Glyph of Fade, which will reduce the damage you take, and then activate Fade as a damage reduction ability (of course everything will stay aggro'd to you unless you also have Mindbender out at the time).
Take Glyph of Reflective Shield, and be sure that you are under the effects of Weakened Soul t all times (ie... max out your shield potential on yourself, which with the glyph will also be doing damage to anything attacking you)
Those tools should help to keep you alive while you kill things slowwwwwly.
Same thing happened again today - Shadow-Pan dailies, I have to challenge Snow Blossom to a duel.... I fail dismally and die on my first attempt, switched to Discipline and then had no issue whatsoever on my second attempt.
I'll be doing anything that looks remotely difficult in Discipline from now on. By te way, I see the DPS charts published by Noxxic rates Shadow as the VERY LOWEST damage DPS class at the moment :-(.
