Students gifted with a keen intellect and unwavering discipline may walk the path of the mage. The arcane magic available to magi is both great and dangerous, and thus is revealed only to the most devoted practitioners. To avoid interference with their spellcasting, magi wear only cloth armor, but arcane shields and enchantments give them additional protection. To keep enemies at bay, magi can summon bursts of fire to incinerate distant targets and cause entire areas to erupt, setting groups of foes ablaze.

Masters of ice can command blizzards that tear into flesh and limit movement. Should enemies manage to survive this assault, the mage can shrink them into harmless sheep in the blink of an eye.

Powerful magi can even generate enhancements and portals, assisting allies by sharpening their minds and transporting them instantly across the world.

Mage Information

Mages demolish their foes with arcane incantations. Although they wield powerful offensive spells, mages are fragile and lightly armored, making them particularly vulnerable to close-range attacks. Wise mages make careful use of their spells to keep their foes at a distance or hold them in place.

  • Type Ranged Magic Damage Dealer
  • Standard Bars Health, Mana

Mage talents focus on enhancing individual schools of magic – quick, aggressive Fire spells; efficient, controlling Frost spells and punishing Arcane spells.

Mage Talent Specialization
Mage Features
Ranged damage

Mages can expend mana in order to deal high amounts of damage with amazing speed, though they must be wary of exhausting themselves.

Area of effect spells

By calling upon sheets of ice, columns of flame, and waves of arcane power, mages can effectively attack multiple foes at the same time.

Control

A mage has many options for controlling the battlefield, from freezing enemies in place to transforming them into helpless critters.

Teleportation

Mages possess the ability to transport themselves and their allies between cities and can summon replenishing food and water.

When starting a mage it should be known that the leveling experience of said mage is as follow.
-You will be able to teleport to cities starting at level 24 with Stormwind/Org and other main cities. That frees up your Hearthstone to be saved at the current location you are leveling which can save you a lot of travel time. Especially in a guild with the Perk to reduce the Cooldown of the Hearth to 15 minutes.
-Since mages are pure DPS, the major stats you should always aim for when leveling is Intellect gear. If there is spirit on it, AVOID THAT ITEM AT ALL COST! Spirit does nothing for a mage and even if it came from a quest/Better, you might as well just put on white armor (In some cases, spirit gear is okay only up to 70+)
- We mages have Three Codes we abide to. Fire, Frost and Arcane. While Arcane is tempting to level as, It should be noted that Arcane is not as powerful at lower levels like Frost or Fire. My Recommendation for Leveling is frost. That way, you can slow enemies down as well as freeze them from a distance with your Elemental.
- Never take weapons that do not have pure Intel on them! You are not going to whack the enemy in the face with it, so don't roll need on weapons or use weapons with high damage on it. The more Intel you have, the more damage your spells will do.
- Some professions may seem tempting to use as a mage. For starters to wow, be a Tailor and Enchanter. That way you can make your own gear while enchanting it with the disenchanted old gear you do not have. Later on you can get a self cloak enchant for more damage as well as ring enchants. Other professions that are pros for mages include:
Jewelcrafting
Inscription
Engineering
Mining (Profit or pair with either Engineering or Jewelcrafting)
Herbalism (Profit)
Skinning (Profit)
- NEVER BUY VENDOR FOOD! At level 38, you have a spell that can create food that replenish health and Mana. The spell also scales the food with a certain level range. Until then, level your cooking as you kill boars and other creatures to make into wonderful stat food.
- When you are able to make portals for your party members and raid team, always be the last guy in as once you (The one who made the portal) enter the portal, no one else can take your portal. Do not be an !@# or make that mistake. Headcount before you enter yourself :3 (This was added in 4.0.1. Dunno why)
- Remember to always check if your armor is on. It can be removed if you change a talent or respect or swap specs.
- If you have a wand, make sure to keep the shoot bar on hand if you have low mana and no way to regenerate it fast enough in battle. Your wand can act as a temporary damage dealing devise at long ranges.
- And last but not least, enjoy the game as a mage. Now go burn some stuff up!

If you need help at all, do not be afraid to ask this comment section like other class pages. Skilled Mages like myself from all kinds of servers will help you out in your time of need.

the Mage class is awesome when they made it easier to understand the ability and more likely the frost Mages are for Player vs player like in battleground, fire Mage are pretty awesome when they use their fire spell on to target , and arcane is change it a lot know they have put in arcane charge which its brand new.

Today I learned the art if the frost mage. It's now my high dealing dps spec in both pve and pvp. I burst everyone down from 100 to 0 and they can't react because they are slower then the whale shark or stunned for all eternity.

seriously??!? arcane mages are nerfed?!? HAHAHA YEA RIGHT!! has ANYONE seen the patch notes?the arcane blast/missiles stack only has to stack 4 times now(instead of 6) and arcane blast only cost an extra 1.67% mana per stack, while each stack increases damage by 50% NOW!!!! ALSO, the invocation talent is only 2.5sec spell now and is adjusted based off the ARC stack number(so is nether tempest and ARC BARrage)...IMa tailor too, and already have ilvl522 gear to make for myself, just need the spirits...So everyone, calm down, dont get it confused< MAGEs are still OP and will be even more OP as the new ilvl500+ comes out

I think mages would down right fun to play if i could i do it right im hunter through and through but i like all classes and races (only played horde at the moment but would like to start a alliance toon and server hope when im done with all my horde ones) I thought considering fire was the weakest spec going into 5.2 that it would get a buff here and there kinda how they did with MM hunters but instead they come out with the old nerf bat. I still see mages as the best over for pure DPS arcane on paper still is the best and if you like to play frost there great with all the cc's and stuff they can do ive on a few occasions seen a good frost mage just go through people like butter even i couldnt kill that person and im fairly well equiped to kill mages and he just knew when and where to tele to through me off. Overall i think mages are awesome and cant wait to get my alt up to 90. :)

To everyone that says mages suck let me tell you this i have played a mage since 08 it is fun yes we die alot and all that but look at this way we can teleport which you can usually get for 10g a port as a tip nowadays oh and why do you need food when you make your own well that rules out another properly from 0-90 about 10k g spent in food lets see here oh and arcane is what i have been all that time i dont care about being nerfed i just like arcane and i still do 101k crits in dungen and even done it a few times out of one you just have to figure out how to play one and there cc is unsurpassed lets see frost nova this group oh and polymorph this guy and slow this guy blink away arcan blast 4 times arcan missile blink again rinse and repeat. Not hard i love being a mage saved a lot of money too but all and all its your choice but the important thing is just have fun

As a matter if fact, my friend is thinking of becoming a Mage, but cannot decide which race is best. (He also takes engineering(always) and has a friend (me) to tank). Please suggest something other than horde, Draenei, or human. I would appreciate feedback soon

@Walerina: I try not to put down what others say or how they say it. After all, I don't know them. They could be from another country and english is their second language, they could be very young, or shy, or other reasons so I don't think it's fair to slam someone simply for the way they put their views out.
I may have misread what you posted, but you seemed to take what he said personally.
