For rogues, the only code is the contract, and their honor is purchased in gold. Free from the constraints of a conscience, these mercenaries rely on brutal and efficient tactics. Lethal assassins and masters of stealth, they will approach their marks from behind, piercing a vital organ and vanishing into the shadows before the victim hits the ground.

Rogues can dip their weapons in paralyzing toxins that render foes unable to defend themselves. These silent stalkers wear leather armor so they can move unencumbered, ensuring that they land the first strike.

With the rogue’s poisons and speed, the first strike is often the last step before the killing blow.

Rogue Information

Rogues often initiate combat with a surprise attack from the shadows, leading with vicious melee strikes. When in protracted battles, they utilize a successive combination of carefully chosen attacks to soften the enemy up for a killing blow. Rogues must take special care when selecting targets so that their combo attacks are not wasted, and they must be conscious of when to hide or flee if a battle turns against them.

@Vindurza: With Stealth breaking randomly they just might. Hopefully they'll consider fixing it in 5.2.

@Thebigginger: It's really up to you (assuming you're talking about endgame PvP). With MoP, Rogue PvP has more or less been a little bit of a hassle in some respects but once you get the hang of things (also assuming that you've been playing Rogue PvP pre-MoP release and pre-patch) it's rewarding. Assassination as far as I'm concerned has become way more applicable in MoP as well as Combat for single-target damage and cc. Subtlety has taken an exceptional tone down but still produces the greatest bursts. It all depends on your playstyle since MoP made all Rogue specs slightly even when played right.

@Apologetics: There's no such thing as a beast Pver...As for the "buffs" the next patch looks decent and if you actually do that thing called cc you might actually get a kill in. Stop thinking like an fotm and get your mind out of the cata rogue mindset.

@Ardoleon: I use plenty of CC's.I just think Blizz should've nerfed rogues only half as much as they did. Also they should've given monks better survivability.

@Apologetics: not to bust your balls but i think it would help if you were level 90. maybe then things wouldnt be so bad as you say they are in lower levels. of course one would get 1 shotty by someone thats 3-4 levels higher then you are

ATTENTION: If your new to the game and/or planning on rolling (PvP) rogue for first time BEWARE: ROGUES ARE TOTAL TRASH CLASS at the moment. You are forced to choose between mobility and survivability and you do the least amount of damage of all classes regardless of the fact that you are the ONLY PURE MELEE CLASS. The damage you do inflict is easily mitigated by the passive healing abilities of other melee classes and strong healing abilities by healing classes that are both equipped with cc's that were once EXCLUSIVE to the rogue class (ie: Blinding Light, Vanish). Not only are you losing your uniqueness as a class other classes do a tremendous amount more damage than you, while combined with your lack of survivability, inability to do any significant damage beyond your opener and lacking the mobility that many other classes enjoy (and that rogues once enjoyed as well until MoP expansion) this easily makes you the most nonviable class in the game in regards to Player versus Player.

@Climaxnow: After Mists of Pandaria, they made it so Rogues can't have ranged weapons anymore. They have the casted ability Throw, and, later on, (if chosen at 90) Shuriken Toss. Past thrown weapons are now vendor trash.

Rogues are still my favorite class to play. I used to hate Combat spec, but now that combat rogues can shadowstep, all is well. :D I still don't understand why people think you have to have your slow weapon in your main hand though. I don't see any noticeable difference, and you don't get as much damage as you do if you equip your dagger in your main hand with ambush. I tend to get a 60k+ crit about half the time with ambush, with a dagger in the main hand, and it makes a world of difference for me dps-wise. Someone please enlighten me as to why people insist that I equip my slow weapon in my main hand?

@Matylena: Slow weapon have more weapon dmg than dagger(ilvl463 dagger around 3k weapon dmg and other around 4.5k) also combat spec don't have skill that support dagger like sub(203% for dagger 140% for other) or assasinate and combat spec mastery = 150% main hand weapon dmg.
You should try it. Sinister Strike can do more damage than ambush.

@Matylena: If you're talking about why Combat Rogues want a slower weapon it's because of the effects of Main Gauche.

a lot of complaints below about semi-recent nerfs. i would just like to say that rogues are not "pvp" designed classes like some people say they are. all classes are designed for pve first, with pvp balance taking a backseat. yes, assassin and combat rogues have the lowest dps in sustained fights right now, but subtlety is doing alrightish. the good news? you guys have some sweet CC and can initiate combat on your own terms with stealth, and if you can kill a target quickly by stacking 3-5 combos then a finishing move, this class is as lethal as it gets. the sustained damage is just the place that bliz decided had to take a hit for balance purposes
