A properly implement BoA will be a useful item sink. Without BoA of any kind shape or form means that all gear from really good gear to BiS godly gear will be in the SC market forever. There will be nothing to take it out of the market.
Do you think that anyone would take really great gear or godly gear and salvage or vendor it without BoA? No they will not that means that in time you will find that all of the top BiS gear would be an abundance of it and it will be dirt cheap because the lack of an item sink.
The one and only reason why your chance of finding this game changing item is so slim is because items are not bounded to a player.
Because it's so easy to trade items the quality of your stuff is determined by what the entire pool of player loots and not by what you loot. This is going to change and it is a good thing.
If there isn't an AH within the game anymore but trade is still possible then it is just deplacing the AH to third party site and not removing it.
I dont understand that you can be in favor of removing the AH and disagreeing with BoA, that's the same thing.
Therefore your chances of finding that game changer (the 'build changing' Leg/Set items Blizz have been talking about) are going to be slim... let alone a mediocre/well rolled version of said item you are looking for.
I sincerely hope you are right and I am wrong (about RNG):
If they don't get it right then the frustration of not finding what you need is gonna kill it for a lot of people...

That's the case at this very moment because of items not being bound. You loot only worthless items because those items are traded by numerous other people.
Did you try to have a character self loot? You actually loot items that improve your stuff quite often. The only thing is that your stuff is worthless in regard of what you can get by trading. Take trade out of the equation and you will loot good items while your stuff not looking like dirt to other players (because they wont be that much have a better stuff than you).
Yeah I won't be buying RoS at any price if they don't have a trade zone and something like this:
To remove the auctionshouse from the game was a good step I think but to ruin the trade community was a bad one...why should I be happy when I drop a legendary when I can't trade it? After a month everybody will be at a state where he hardly finds upgrades like now...the only thing that makes fun at the game is to find rare legendarys with good stats and get something for it...but when that legendary is bound to your account you just think "what a crap...can't use it, can't trade it....destroy it" sure at the beginning of RoS everybody is excited and happy but after a few months I'm sure that will change...
D2 was cool because you were proud when you dropped a SoJ or something like that or a rare rune but in D2 you could trade it and get something for it...here nothing
and the ladder would take the mass of items out of the game after a time so there wouldn't be 1000's of very good items
