Random Random Challenge

Forelle : you are fast ! speeding through the difficulty !

Yes, I leveled surprisingly quickly so far, without Cain set, ruby or anything, only the experience bonus that comes with the gear anyway (without focusing on it). I think the reason is that I enjoy the skills I have now since there were none in the beginning. :D I noticed that I use some skills a lot, others hardly ever, even almost forget about them. I was thinking about it, maybe it is because they are not really my choice, and I stick to the skills I consider as most useful. I wonder if you make the same experience with your character. Would be interesting to share that information. Even though I have a skill, which cannot be used, I feel my WD fully useful. I even think that I could get him to 59/60, which I actually doubted as I started off with him.

And yes, I also clear the entire map and dungeons that come with it. Sometimes I repeat some parts - either because I resume the game and have to or because a bar or two are missing before a big boss fight so that I am a bit higher level with a bit better stats to make my survival more likely.

Here some screenshots I took yesterday (Nightmare difficulty):

This WD seems to be one lucky guy. He found another legendary: http://i48.tinypic.com/r8cak9.jpg

ERm my familiar i guess , it doesnt have anything that reminds me that i am not using it , other then when i am watching the CD of spells , i realise that I have such a skill.

LUcky WD ! finding legends !

speaking of trouble , Keywardens are dangerous ... almost died against it when it spawned next to another pack . Had to lure the 1st pack away before slowly sniping + towning to get rid of the warden

Yes, that are those skills you have to cast regularly, like an amor spell. You can see it with that little box hovering near your head if it is on or not. But yes, that is something you have to get used to (it is so easy to forget about them). It gives you 20% more weapon damage, which is really useful for you!

LUcky WD ! finding legends !

That surprises me, too. Totally didn't expect it to find legendaries. He seems to be a very lucky guy, and the more I advance, the more I want to keep him. :P Let's see if I can make it.

That is a good method, to separate the elites. I also retreat a lot when dangerous elites who do lots of damage are after me. I cast a zombie, retreat, cast zombie, retreat. The zombie does lots of damage (205%). The rune Undeath makes it even come alive (up to twice) when a monster dies, plus that new zombie is seeking his target! That is something I really love! With that I get bigger packs very quickly down. If you compare that to Zombie Bears, which are very popular: yes, they give more damage (236%), but I don't think it has this nice chain effect, which Undeath has. You have to stay close to the monster, whereas Undeath allows me to bring down a "line of monsters".

I try to illustrate that. :P

With Zombie Bears it looks like this:
.......->... x.x.m.m
WD.->...x..x.x.m.m
......->....x.m.m.m

(Note: I didn't test it on Dragonsoul, my WD uses his spells he is only allowed to, but I have seen Zombie Bears a lot in public games before.)

Whereas with Undeath it looks like that:
..............x.->.x.->.x.->.x
WD -> x.->.x.->.x.->.x.->.x
.............x ->.x.->.x.->.x

WD = Witch Doctor casting the spell of Zombie Charger
x = monster that died by the spell
m = monster that didn't die by the spell
-> = area that effects the spell
. = space (otherwise it won't show it correctly)

Now I'm even thinking if Undeath isn't the better spell, even if you lose apparently about 30% of additional damage. If you consider the reviving part, Undeath does actually 410-615% damage, maybe with a bit of delay, but those zombies revive fairly quickly, and I don't need to cast them, they do their job automatically (seeking targets!) in an area I cannot reach anyway. So, is Undeath not the better rune, I wonder...

Edit: That is... when your DPS is high enough to actually kill the monsters with Undeath (in one go). Otherwise you won't be able to trigger the chain reaction.

Here an update on Dragonsoul:

Yes, Keywardens can be dangerous. The health of my WD goes down:

http://i45.tinypic.com/2808lxw.jpg

Here it shows what I tried to illustrate in the last post: My WD takes down 19 monsters in one blow with the Zombie Charger - Undeath (his record so far):
http://i49.tinypic.com/2z902af.jpg

Fight against Belial (in Nightmare difficulty):
http://i48.tinypic.com/14mz9s8.jpg
This time it was quite easy. No scary moments, no potions, no Spirit Walk needed.

At level 47, the rune for Spirit Walk is unlocked:
http://i50.tinypic.com/5l13d2.jpg
I haven't tested it, yet, since i keep it available for bad moments (I don't have Spirit Vessel as a passive to rely on).

Now I need to unlock the next rune and my last passive at level 50.

I'd love to have 3 people do this with me, and play a 4 man game through at least normal in one sitting like this.

Quick update my monk (which is the second random I tried) is level 31 in act 4. I have gotten really lucky with some drops (read actually useful drops...lol) and built a decent set of gear.

Almost ate it on IZUAl. but after the red screen of death flashing and a little benny hill them song running made it out of there. At level 30 actually filled in all the buttons. Only one rune so far but getting close.

Hi Wockets,
Congratulations on Ghom. :)
Well, yes, you might be right about the bears. I shall compare it myself actually using the bears. :P But that would be when I got my WD to level 60.

Hi TechJunkie,
Oh, you got you Monk pretty far! I think, considering the WD you had before, that you were much luckier with the skills you rolled, particularly Breath of Heaven with its rune. But maybe you are also much more familiar with a Monk in general, which makes it easier for you...?
Either way, you got him quite far, which is very neat.

Btw, I saw you use lots of square Amethyst; they are really expensive in AH, I bought one myself for the helm and got two others, which came with the chest piece. I always spent all my gold I got (till lately). Remember there was a point I got 270 gold left? :D Now I started to save up some good amount.

Here the latest screenshots I took:

My WD got lucky again. He found another legendary, a ceremonial knife (which was dropped by a goblin near an elite):
http://i50.tinypic.com/2qty2r8.jpg
(Question: Why would my SC barb with full mf never be that lucky and find items for his class?)

I consider this as the most lucky moment of my WD so far. He could get a really awesome high-dps weapon with vit on it for only 10k gold:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2iuxmon.jpg

This looks like a new record (not surprising with the weapon he got):
http://i48.tinypic.com/357n4af.jpg

My WD unlocked his next rune (which gives some healing, yeah!):
http://i50.tinypic.com/14jn69t.jpg
and his last passive:
http://i46.tinypic.com/e0ixdj.jpg
His skill sheet is nearly complete. He only needs one more rune, at level 59.

yeah the amethyst can be pricey but I have gotten super lucky with some leg drops that were actually good rolls. was able to snipe a full cains set and a good wep. rest just got lucky from vendors and crafting.

Got a very close call. :-O
And yes, it was the Keywarden (who else?).
Here starts to go my health down and I start running:
http://i48.tinypic.com/2vt5llk.jpg

This was supposed to show the red screen, with Spirit Walk and potion on cooldown
http://i45.tinypic.com/atb9y.jpg
but my faithful Templar healed me (yet again) right in that moment as I took the screenshot. I ran as fast as my pants (with movement speed) could carry me. The exit wasn't far, any more. That saved my WD. The passive Blood Ritual comes in quite handy with its 1% life regen.

Dragonsoul got his revenge:
http://i46.tinypic.com/lflog.jpg
The Keywarden got down not far from where he left him a few seconds before (after waiting for the cd on all skills and potion, taking a deep breath and slowing down the heart beat a little).

Diablo was easier:

Oh nice to hear you got some lucky leg drops! Mine were nice but never an upgrade for my WD so that I sell them in the AH. My last one was actually the worst roll you could find in the AH. :D Never mind, is always nice to find a legendary anyway. :)

Yes, I know what you mean. It's all about luck. :/ I didn't expect any drops, to be honest. That's why I call this WD the lucky guy. You might get drops, though, but at higher level. Always new game, new chance.

Yes, don't risk the pools. I might be able to tank him in pool, but I don't risk it. Better running around till the pools are gone and then to finish him off. Well done!

The pack had lots of arcane (as you can see) and vortexed my WD right back in as he tried to spirit-walk off.

Here for the memory:

Thanks a lot for the competition. I really enjoyed it.

grats though bro, really been a fun a challenge and definitely not easy. appreciate the stories.

Cheers to those that have the BALLS to try it. good luck to you.

Lol, I don't have balls... I am actually a woman. But yes, so close, yet so far. ;)
I got a bit the taste of a WD and liked it. I might create a WD in HC, but then with the skills I choose (which will include Spirit Vessel as a passive :D ).
