Technical Support
What's up, guys.

Blizzard Update Agent keeps eating my whole CPU core without any reason.

Please, stop this.
About an hour ago this high usage began for me, too. Now it's back to normal. No discernable cause for either. Maybe it was a misconfiguration on Blizzards's end that was fixed?
I have the same problem

And I have found a solution in Agent.exe logs.

Solution:
Just block Battle.net Telemetry by adding to "C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts" these lines:
127.0.0.1 telemetry.battle.net
127.0.0.1 telemetry-in.battle.net
It got fixed for me.
Howdy!

Happy to see this issue was resolved for you Amartel. Mpi posted a smart solution that is very creative but we would recommend not to keep it and try the steps below if possible. If you feel stuck and Mpi's solution works for you just keep in mind how to clear your Windows Host files if any connection issues occur in the future. We have a support article on how to do this Here. As this could have future unknown consequences to the game's connection. Our developers are looking into this issue currently.

Till they get it resolved we do have some recommended troubleshooting:
Step 1) Clear the Blizzard app's file cache Here.

Step 2) Log into the Blizzard app -> Select the Blizzard icon (Top Left) -> Drop down to "Settings" -> General -> WHEN I LAUNCH A GAME -> Select: Exit the Blizzard app completely. Done -> Retest the game.

Thank you!
Odd that I should have this issue and find this thread 7 months after the original response from Blizzard. I am experiencing the same issue. I would hope that Blizzard would prioritize the stability of their customers hardware and software above content updates.

@mpi - Thank you for the solution. It worked perfectly and now my 8 cores are sitting idle versus being maxed in the red. It was a bit difficult as the file is read only and I had to figure out how to edit it. (Right click change permissions, change them back after you are done...)

I am having a similar issue with my computer. It happened when the app first got the Overwatch League tab, and was fixed, now it is doing it again, my app keeps missing parts of the app, like the words and what tab I am in is missing, as if there is something the app is doing or something. not sure if it is the app or my computer, but seems every time this has happened with the app, my game runs at a very slow rate, and my cpu keeps getting very hot.
@Coolcat2999 I think that the issue you are describing might be a separate issue. I could be mistaken. This thread is about the update agent and high CPU usage. This is the main client before you click and activate any games.

My CPU was pegged having just the client open without any games being active.

Did either Zuvykree or mpi's solution fix your issue?
Still an issue - nearly a year old..... this is a joke Blizzard.
Sadly blocking the below in my hosts file didn't work.

127.0.0.1 telemetry.battle.net
127.0.0.1 telemetry-in.battle.net

Downloading updates for any game, and in this case Overwatch... SHOULD NOT cause 80-90%+ CPU usage.
Same problem. Requesting Blizzard to replace my cpu.
